Darn Laptop Battery...

Hi guys, You guys seem to be experts on all things battery so I thought I would get some advice...

I have an Asus Q524UQ notebook. One of thesehttps://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/Q524UQ/

It's fairly new.. less than a year. I let it sit for about 3 months while I was going to the academy and it didn't get used. Nor was it being charged.

Now it's battery wont hold a charge or charge at all.. its like it's completely dead.

Is there anyway to fix that? Or is battery replacement the only solution?

I have seen others say they can bring a battery back to life but I'm not sure how. And it's way too thin to be 18650's.. its got to be something else..

Advice is 100% welcome.. Thanks!

If it's still under warranty, replace it.
It's possible the cells are too low to turn on the bms. The only way to fix that really is to crack it open and manually charge them. You could try checking the pinouts and see if you can get a voltage reading on the pins. The dell packs, you ground pin 7 and it turns on the pack to be used. At this point, it could be charged.

If the battery were easy to come off I might try to charge it but apparently you have to disassemble the darn laptop to get the battery out.. tis designed to not easily come out.. silly design.

I have talked to Asus now and they say you can "fix it" by holding the power key for 60 seconds... .... Of course this did nothing..haha

60 seconds with or without the power cable connected? If the cells are too far depleted, I doubt without the power connector it'd make any difference. And, with some of those things, when they say 60 seconds, they mean it. So make sure you have a stop watch or timer of sort so you can time the button hold duration.

They said without the power connected in order to "discharge any static that might stop it from working" whatever that means.. I think they were just reading a canned script.. I tried it without power, I'll try with.. didn't think to do that. Pretty sure I'm going to have to RMA it..

If you cannot charge the cells up with the case intact you might have to break apart the battery as carefully as you can to keep the wiring and bms intact so you can put it back together. Charge all the cells up to their storage voltage and then re-assemble the pack

If you have to RMA it, try to make arrangements to pull your harddrive out and they ship you a new one with the drive installed. That way you can just plug it in and go.

That's a darn good idea! I'll see what I can do.. my fear is that I have to disassemble the laptop to get the hd out.. and I think its a M.2 HD not a spinning platter..

You may be able to RMA the battery without sending the whole laptop back. I don't think you will be able to keep your data. Depending on your thoughts it may be worth buying a replacement battery, there are some damn good generic batteries out there if you know a reputable supplier.

I wish laptop batteries were not so hard to open. Being able to externally recharge them would be handy. Even more handy if you could rebuild them.

M.2 are easy to work with. Pop the screw off and the whole thing lifts out. It should be under one of the cover plates on the bottom.

It would be nice if he could just RMA the battery. It would make it easier for the data saving aspect of things. However, if he needs to RMA the whole unit, he at least gets a brand new unit ;)
