If you go for the cheap ones with built in mosfets for disconnecting they need to be atleast 50% more than your maximum current you ever going to draw. Its even better if they can handle 2x your max. Why? Because the cheap ones are under dimensioned
So if 1 serie of packs will handle up to 30A total current the bms should be able to take atleast 45A or even 60A so you have some margin. If you live on the edge its just a major risk it fails
If you on the other hand buy a proper BMS system you can generally be closer to the max.
