Shock risk?

I need to connect the wire shown in the first photo below to a shunt that will be mounted on the go kart.Since the wires (12 AWG) will be mounted to a shunt, I need to addamp ring terminals to each end of the wire prior to connecting it to the shunt. I am going to show my ignorance by asking this question but I would rather be embarrassed on the Internet than run the risk of electric shock. Is it safe to cut the wire at the point indicated in the picture below and add the the amp ring terminals (either by crimping or soldering) and then connect the wires to the shunt? Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.


I should have included more details (sorry about that). The go kart project consist of the following:
48V 1000 Watt Brushed Motor with rated current of 26.7 amps
48V charge controller

14S9P batteries using Samsung INR18650-25R 2500 mAh 18650 cells (connected with spot welder using pure nickel strips)

I added a 35 amp fuse (rated for up to 58 volts) and I hope to hook everything up to the go kart soon. Thanks to those on this forum who have provided advice to me. I really

Yes, that is fine to cut the wire. Just dont have any metal tools touching the other terminal when doing so. Electricity is very safe, when following proper protocols. Even dealing with Mains voltages without disconnects can be safe, as long as you don't touch more than 1 wire at a time (and you aren't grounded).

So yes, you can cut that blue wire, strip both ends, put ring terminals on and reconnect to the shunt just fine.
 
Should be fine as Korishan said. Just make sure you mount the shunt solid so it cant bounce around and then protect the ring terminals and your good to go
 
Electricity works in circuits that include a positive and negative terminal ;) Cutting a single wire won't do anything without a connection to somewhere else at the same time ;)
