reverse-engineered BMS, Teensy3.2 based, working with Tesla module oem slaveboard

I misunderstood anti islanding. Totally agreed that the system cannot be allowed to push power to a grid that is shutdown.
Will read Jens's example.

Thanks for your time and effort it is highly appreciated. One question you didnt answer, will one SIMPbms work for 8 bmw battery packs alternatively 6 Tesla, or is it one pr pack ?

Really I want you to read the manual,
it's either or, but never mixed.

Hi Darkwing,
If you have some time for reading, check my project here. It was inspired by Carel's idea of using EV batteries with HV hybrid inverters.
The system is working well, but it's still WIP, more like a proof concept.
And I have some concerns about using an HV system in DIY projects because HV DC is not a joke.

Thread read. I like the hv for the same reason as you. Closed package minimum involvement in cabling.
However i have taken Carel's advice very serious, and will try and see if i can make it work as a 48volt system i think.
I will loose the enclosure, dont think it will allow for a rewiring. With 6 tesla batteries i can use a hv inverter but stay well below the 500volt mark.
But still think that the 48 may be the right road for someone not educated in electricity.
I'm required by law to have an actual electrician perform final install, but i will be honest, i will need to prove to myself it works before i pay for an electrician. I will spend some time reading up based on Carel's information. Will return with final results and decisions.

Darkwing, do you live in the Copenhagen area? I'll be happy to show you my setup and how I rewired the i3 batteries.

Hi Lykke
I would love to see your setup, and essentially run in your footsteps.
I can be reached at 20878138
Feel free to reach out anytime.

Hi. I have a doubt regarding a part in the SIMP BMS code. I am not sure if this is the right place to ask but could someone please explain why there are only 5 Module ID requests when there are in total if I am not wrong, 8 Modules for the BMW i3 Pack. I was assuming this part of the code is to detect the module ID to establish communication. Any help is appreciated, thanks...

Lykke,
small team working on it, Even in Norway, Tom in UK, Daniel and me in Holland,
actually 2 separate projects
1) getting the SIMP to talk to SMA SBS series
2) getting the SIMP to talk to the BMW cmu's

2) We have slow progress, thanks to Kai we now have the full can database of the BMW i3, but that was just 2 weeks ago
1) we bought a BYD 6.4 HV battery and a SMA SBS6 to hook up a can sniffer, Even from Norway would log into my home network to crack code etc.
that didn't work to well, so now we have moved all kit on pallet to Norway, and have it at Even's place.
Hopefully that will speed up process.

All code will be on Github when ready,
latest scores are GS YUASA LEV50N cmu (iMIEV etc), VOLT/Ampera cmu:

Hi. I am also planning take up similar projects and am really interested to know about possibilities of getting the BMWi3 can database, dbc files of Modules, and Module IDs. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks

I can tell you SIMPbms does work with BMW13 +i8 CSC modules but to a max of 8modules ( max 8 ID's)

Code on Github is what is shared.

Unfortunately I had to ditch efforts to try developing code to make the SMA SBS HV-inverters work

Just a friendly word: where did you purchase your SIMPbms??,

Carel

Hello,

we connected the Sungrow SH10RT to our own battery.

communication works via CAN with a Raspberry PI.

Now we need a complete battery and a BMS that can communicate with the BMS in the battery for easy installation.

either a complete BMW i3 battery in the housing or a Tesla battery

BMW i3 Batterie
or
Tesla S Batterie 85kWh

Kind regards fstoiber

Hey we are also looking for continuous supply of BMW i3 battery packs. Where are you based?? Maybe we could help each other out.

Hey yeah I'm working for Voltfang. So we had purchased the SIMP BMS from you.

Germany, Aachen. Awesome.
Aadithya, talk to Roman, your co-worker, it saves me the explanation on the subject of sourcing BMW i3's
I've sold Voltfang 7x BMWi3 60/94Ahr batteries so far.

Hello fstoiber
Perhaps contact me via e-mail, or via messenger on facebook.com/carel1956

I have a couple of Tesla packs in stock,

Hello guys,

we are also working on connecting custom batteries to a Sungrow SH10RT inverter.
For this, we are using batteries from electric vehicles.
We have also set up the can communication using a Raspberry Pi.
We are completeley open source, so if you are interested you can visit our repositories at Github:

We managed to fake the CAN BMS communication to the inverter by replaying BYD battery communication.
I would be very interested in how you managed to reverse engineer the CAN communication.
Would you like to get in touch to talk about this?

Best Regards
Arne

Hello fstoiber,

is it possible for you to share more details of your HV setup with the Sungrow hybrid. Do you have some CAN dbc to have a look?
I am also located in bavaria and working on it.

Best regards
Michael
