Two types of LiFePO4 Batteries

What is the performance difference between the two types of LiFePO4 batteries:
a.32650
b.CATL prismatic Cells

Also, what are the main difficulties in building of energy storage systems

32650/32700 is cylinderical and CATL cells are Prismatic (rectangular) thin metal/plastic cases . Chemical differences between LiFePo4 is most likely minor.
Testing the cells, Making sure they are within a certain range of voltage , capacity and internal resistance. Building the packs, making sure you have enough nickel stips (32650/32700), Bus bar stock (Prismatic), the right size screws/bolts/nuts for prismatic cells, enough wire for connecting to your device.

Those are just different physical shapes of a battery. Like beer in a can vs beer in a bottle, it says nothing about the content inside.
32650 cells are cylindrical, 32mm in diameter and 65mm long. The contacts are on the bottom and top of the cylinder.
Prismatic cells are box shapes and come in all kinds of sizes, but generally much larger than 32650. Both Contacts are on top.

CATL is the name of a battery manufacturer in China(?)

CATL is the worlds second largest cell/battery manufacturer. Never heard of them, really? Hehe

Assuming that "A" is referring to cylindrical metal casing cells.

This really ultimately depends on "your" application and what's available to you. Metal cased cells are pretty rugged on their own. If used in something that would likely have high vibration issues (EV's of some sort) then this would be the preferred choice

Prismatic cells (aka pouch cells) must be under compression to be used properly. You can't just let them lay flat on a shelf. This requires some kind of form that will keep compression on the cells at all times. Otherwise you will end up with pillows over time, which degrades the cell.

But either of these forms can be used just as equal to the other. Again, just depends on your application, skill level, and what's available. And the size of your wallet, of course.

Hi Korishan, did you have a source I could read on this?
I have had quite a few pouch cells (qty = 96) in service for several years now, no sign of swelling & they are not under compression.
My thoughts are internal gassing only occurs if the cells are over charged (>3.5V approx) or possibly when discharged (or charged) at high currents.

PS: I thought prismatic cells were pouch cells in a plastic box like case?

Some prismatic cells have a case design that kinda keeps them squeezed enough to keep them from expanding. Think cell phone batteries, for example. Under normal conditions they don't swell.
I don't have a particular source, no. I have just collected from various resources over the past few years, articles and YT vids.

I'll add, I may have added a little confusion with my statement. I meant that all "pouch" cells should be under compression of some sort. Some require more compression than others.
And as Redpacket states, the gassing usually happens when the cell is over-current charge/discharge or over-voltage charged.

But as far as the CATL prismatics, I believe AvE Joe as well as Lithium Solar on YT both recently got some, and the instructions were they needed to be under compression.
 
32650 is a cylindrical type of lifepo4 battery cells with dimension of 32mm*65mm,
CATL is a Lifepo4 battery manufacturer from China, mainly produced prismatic lifepo4 battery cells :)

Sounds like you need to start reading a lot and also watching a lot of youtube videos.
eg start with Will Prose << he shows you how to build a basic system.

a) safety (voltage, short circuits, fire)
b) designing it properly (eg so it does not damage the batteries, melt cables, blow up or fail for other reasons)

his fan boys are too extreme, go against anything they say and you are instantly a heretic. other sights/suppliers are better. his sight is run off of selling, so its suspect.
