Dala's Leaf buildthread (2015 Nissan Leaf)

Dala, not to forget you take out the risk,

your clients are offered a tested"swap battery" with known SOH/physical condition.
no salvage yard is actually capable/interested in doing a SOH test.

Furthermore:
Statistically you will hit a DOA battery, I do not see you've calculated that into your pricing structure.

I've had a couple,.......,
if it's long distance, and cannot return, due to ADR uncode3480 protocol
you are faced with loss on battery, loss on logistics, added logistic cost to recycler company, recycling cost on top of ~3/kwh.

ouch..!!

Hi Dala, you are to good for this world ;-), Love what you are doing.

Happy new year! I'm starting 2021 by installing a new EVSE into my workshop. I ran 6mm^2 cabling to the EVSE, but my main fuse is 3x25A, so I am limiting the EVSE to 3x16A (11kW). If I ever bump up my main fuses to 35A, I can simply set the EVSE to 22kW!

I just put out a video that goes into detail how Nissan protects their CAN communication from corruption/tampering. Very useful info for anyone doing Leaf reverse-engineering or any projects where Leaf parts are transplanted into new use!

So I thought I'd write a status update on this LEAF. In short, it's been running without any issues whatsoever.

This vehicle just ticked in at 55,000km , which is over 30k'km fault free driving after the 40kWh pack was installed. I have not done anything to this car except add windshield wiper fluid, and I don't intend to do anything either. That's the massive benefit of these electric cars, very low maintenance!

But I did purchase a 2019 motor/inverter/charger setup, so let's see how long I can keep myself from tinkering...

While switching over to summer tires I decided to make a small improvement to the LEAF!

Here is what the vehicle usually looks like, dirty and sandy

After pressure washing the sills, the front is starting to loose all paint, and white primer is showing!

Time to rectify this in time, with a mud-guard kit

All in all a very easy mod that will prevent the chassi-rot from forming prematurely. Feels good to do some wrenching on this LEAF finally! :)

Hi Dala.

My name is Michele from Germany, Ive been looking for solutions to the turtle problem for my 2013 Leaf for a long time, but i can`t find a solution.
I installed an additional battery of 5 kilowatts of hours, ( soon 8 KWh ) but the control unit still believes that I have a battery of 24 kilowatts of hours. I have a 210 guide, ( i have only 10 bar ) and as soon as they end, the turtle turns on for the 7 guide, although I have about 30% more energy. How can I solve this problem? You can help? I need help.

I send you last Month Email.

Best regards
Michele

Yup Michele, or contact Daniel

I agree, not easy to manage.

So I recently did a PDM replacement on a similar LEAF as mine, also an USA import. Might be of interest to check this one out, ended up with EUs first chademo retrofit!

Did some CAN manipulation last night with my battery upgraded LEAF. Was kinda funny to see what the QC station did when SOC% went down during charge 😂

Been silent for a while on this build, the car has gone perfectly over 4000km with the 110kW power upgrade.

So now it is time to soon tear it apart again and fit this lovely 160kW inverter from a 2020 e+ !

Nice

In the voice of Tim Allen "More Power arg Arg arg" lol (from the American TV show Home Improvement)

I now have mounted the 160kW inverter and confirmed it to work with the old LEAF :D Theoretical 0-100km/h is now 6.5s, but it is so cold outside now that the roads are not really up to any performance testing :D

kudos to you Dala :)

I'm thinking of putting 16 x 200 Ah lifepo4 in series in the trunk of my leaf 40 kWh , then use bidirectional dc/dc converter 48V/400V
3.3kW for range extender

What is the best way to tap in to HV cable from battery to PDC, I would need the current direction meter too for the inverter .

Thanks
Borut
