Solax x1-hybrid 3.7-d-e Current Sensor

Hello
I have just bought a solax x1-hybrid 3.7-d-e to begin a powerwall project and i don't thin it comes with a CT sensor or Modbus meter, can anyone tell me what is compatible?

I have looked around but cant find much info, i know it has both a rs485 and CT port
Has anyone got this inverter with a ct clamp and could tell me what ratio the ct clamp is?

Likely needs a solax compatible modbus AC power meter for street feed, contactor interlock to island your house during power outage, and then the battery side needs a BMS wrapped around your battery and to provide all the V+I data the inverter. Really it only wants capacity %, voltage, current, kWh remaining. you can lie about cell voltage and temperature to the inverter...

I am not sure if the canbus communications between BMS and battery of a X1 is the same as the can-bus thread I made for the X3. If you have a canbus tool, grab bus-master and emulate the BMS and see if it thinks there is a battery attached. It may be compatible with a LG Resu 10L battery.. in which case its easy as, the canbus IDs are those 0x350-0x370 range numbers... nothing complex. FWIW the X3 is just in the 0x1870 range with a few wakky "contactor engaged" messages from the BMS on startup.

Checkout the Solax doco about what power meter you need (AC Side, Street to House).. You dont "need" their complicated street interlock box, only a contactor thats powered from the street side power.. Open = Emergency power out to house, Closed = Street to house. That way the EMS port can only engage once the street power has been removed.

The inverter arrived today and i have powered it up and found it announces itself on 0x1871 which I think follows your protocol.
I have a simpBMS connected to an outlander pack hooked up, it has the option if using settings for lead acid so i can put in that mode and use manual charge discharge setting protected by the BMS until i get the simpbms coded to work.
I have ordered a contactor for the EPS already, mainly so I can have something that powers the BMS via eps if the mains goes down if you see what i mean.

Is it encoded to RS485/modbus or anything? Or simply analog CT output straight into the RJ45 connector? If so, do you have a pinout?
In terms of values, i found this on an eBay listing (listed as a Solax compatible CT):

It requires a specific SDM230 single-phase Modbus Meter it needs to be programmed to work with Solax at the factory, others wont work apparently, I tried a generic MODBUS meter from AliExpress but it didn't work, so i bought the proper one.
There is no CT sensor support on this model anymore despite the manual having pin outs for it but when you open the cover there is a sticker (at least on mine) with a different pinout which excludes CT, and also there are no options for it in the menu. Hope this helps.

Seems like you must have the newer model, my gen 1 definitely has the rj45 connector, I had a look under the cover & it's there on the PCB but with more connected traces than 2, so I couldn't detemine anything conclusive.

This would work for me too but would require breaking into a supply cable further upstream, and I don't want to upset an already existing solar install that's under warranty from another company etc etc (don't ask :ROFLMAO:). CT seems like a convenient non-intrusive option.
 
Yours might still be able to use the CT, power it on and see if its got the option on the menu? If its there then it should work with a CT, mine is the G3, the manual still shows you can connect one, which is what confused me in the first place.

Yeah I'm confident it can work with a CT, I just can't get hold of one/don't know the pinout/interface.
I friend of mine thinks it's standard 2 wire dumb analog voltage proportional to current, so I've ordered a rj45 breakout & will try some pins & a dummy load 🤞
 
No its not analog voltage proportional to current, its a transformer that converts ac current to an ac voltage. I wouldn't try that if I were you

Have you powered it up and checked it has the CT option in the menu? that would be the first step IMO
You said what I said :) Maybe i didn't say it right. I was referring to the fact that it's an analog signal going through the ct cable that's proportional to the AC current, so 'dumb'. As opposed to the cable carrying a digital signal (rs485 etc), after being conditioned by an MCU built into the CT clamp.
Waiting for a Wieland plug to arrive so I can test the inverter.
I opened the case and checked out the pcb traces, there seems to be a 150r resistor across 2 pins of the RJ45 recepticle - looks like this could be a burden resistor.
 
Oh that makes more sense, I thought you meant you were going to inject dc into the pins, bear in mind some CT are Voltage and some are current ratio, it might be hard to emulate but you could literally make a current transformer with a ferrite core and some wire...
What version is yours mine does not have a Wieland plug it wires directly to terminals inside the cover.
Could you post a picture?
 
Ahh i see. My plan is now to build a small breadboard with a 150r burden resistor, use a CT I already have (fairly generic YHDC 100a/50ma one), clamp it round something & put a scope on it, see what I get. If it seems safe enough to try on the inverter, I'll go for it.
Mine is this - gen1 I believe.


It seems like they updated a few things!
I don't understand why it has the special connector, just makes things more expensive & complicated ...
 
Ah! this is the old low voltage model its completely different to mine, that does indeed use a CT clamp and should be very easy to find one that works on AliExpress for very little and attach it to a RJ45, or get that one from eBay, I don't think you need to do any breadboard work, it will work for sure.

Yeah it's the old boy, planning on using it with LFP cells in 16s so 54v, so I got the old one :)

I just had a friend confirm his RJ45 (same gen1 x1)- the CT wires are indeed terminated into the outside contacts.
I also did a small test on the bench with a 100a/50ma CT & a 160 ohm burden resistor as I didn't have a 150 ohm. The signal was within expected range, so it seems to be a simple case of getting a 100a/33ma CT & wiring straight in.

Sorry to take the thread slightly off-topic but I hope it might help someone out there with a gen1 too
