    Expanding Li battery (Nissan Leaf)

small update: Sun finally decided to show up, we had lots of sunshine the last weeks (northern Germany). So the battery got some charges. I am very pleased with the setup. The battery size of 72kWh (used cap is less, only 20-95% max) is ideal for me. Battery usually gets no lower than 35% at...

    Expanding Li battery (Nissan Leaf)

Gen1 and Gen2 are different in size, end plates and spacers do not fit. Please check Thingiverse, there are spacers for Gen1 and I think end plates as well. I do not know if the terminal brackets fit. Mine are Gen2 only.

Made the covers, spacers, drill templates and several modified brackets STLs. Will upload the files to Thingiverse, brackets are modifications of those on Thingiverse: Nissan Leaf battery module terminal bracket

What To Do With Free Lead-Acid Batteries?

My lead acid forklift batteries were 2 years old when I bought them. Li was too costly back in 2014. They were sold because of 20% degradation and were phased out of the wharehouse forklifts. They lived for another 7 years in my PV storage. Sold them last year. 90kWh total. Lead ist cheap and...

    Expanding Li battery (Nissan Leaf)

update: My 72kWh Nissan battery works fine. 3 sets from 3 cars, 2 had 8-10% loss, the third over 18%. On a lower Soc the cells in the lower 2 banks went down sooner. Luckily I had 4 cells left over, checked the capacity on them and added 2 cells on each of the 2 lower banks, so I added the 10%...

    Batrium SoC issues

It took a while to examine, but the Soc is now stable and accurate. My Nissan Leaf cells are limited to 3.3V to 4.08V, so I set the bypass voltage lower. Disabling recalibrate in bypass was the solution, @daromer gave the hint to that, thank you. The total capacity setting for the BMS is the...

    Batrium SoC issues

Rearranged my battery setup an reinstalled the software. It seems that the function "recalibrate in bypass" is the cause for the SOC jumps to 100%. It occured again after minutes the new system was online. I never had full cycles on the battery (installed it last winter, not enough sun here in...

    Expanding Li battery (Nissan Leaf)

The new battery pack is now online. It took a week to do a cap test on one suspicious bank from the old pack. No bad or low cells, just some a little lower. Had 5 cells to much in any way, so left the lowest 5 out. 7 banks, each 20 cells. The Batrium will need some time to level the older packs...

    Batrium SoC issues

small update: I changed 3 things Shunt setting recalibrate in bypass - OFF changed battery type from custom to std Li Upped the charging voltage to 4.09V/cell and charged the battery to that voltage Since then I havent had any problems. But there was only little sun here for the last 10 days...

    Batrium SoC issues

Hello, my Batrium WM5 has a SoC problem (or my settings). It suddenly changes the SoC to 100%. This happened multiple times now, at least 8 times or more. This causes severe problems in my setup, I am using SolPipLog (software) which reads the SoC from the Batrium and switches my inverters from...

    Batrium Improvements

The Win software nearly was a deal breaker here. I do not have any Win machines, only Macs and Raspis (Linux). But I found an old Win7 image on my Mac with Parallels. Runs, settings can be changed. There is also another software which runs on my Raspian Pi to read from the Batrium and post data...

    Expanding Li battery (Nissan Leaf)

Thank you for the info. The used SOC range here varies, I do not have full cycles every day, so a 30-95% window will mostly be used around 50-80%. In the summer the battery will be at >90% a few hours a day, for a very few weeks. During winter it will not sit at 30% or less. The battery will be...

    Expanding Li battery (Nissan Leaf)

Measured the voltage of all cells, they are very close. I do not have the hardware for a cap test of each of the 290 single cells. I am still a bit shy combining the 1st pack which is >6% less than the newer 2 sets. I do have 5 spare cells when going 14S20P, they will be distributed on the lower...

    Expanding Li battery (Nissan Leaf)

Ok, the plan now is one battery, one BMS. The new/used cells have arrived today (2 full sets of Nissan Leaf Gen2). Will spend the weekend sorting everything, 3D printer already made the pole caps this week. Now I have to join all 3 sets. Will do seven "bricks" and hopefully find a way to put all...

    Hi from Germany

The system is now 7 years old...and.....still in progress. I started with one Pip4048 and expanded to 3 for a 3 phase system, 400V on 3 phases, 230V on each phase 50Hz here in Europe. Today its 4 Pip 4048 with two on phase one for 8kW there (heatpumps peaks at 5kW single phase), 4kW on P2 and...

    Expanding Li battery (Nissan Leaf)

Hello, last year I sold my three 48V625Ah lead acid batteries and bought a Nissan Leaf Gen2 battery pack. 48+1 cells for 14S 24kWh BMS is a batrium WM5. I knew that I will soon upgrade the battery pack, the first pack was to see how it works. During the winter time here in Germany there was no...

    Hi from Germany

Hello everybody, greetings from Germany. My PV is now 7 years old and has grown to 16 kWp PV, 5 MPP Solar Inverters (4048+5048) and a Nissan Leaf Gen2 battery pack. Before the Leaf cells I had lead/acid for 7 years (bought them used) and they are too old to be expanded. So I sold them and got a...
