    18650 Battery Pack for 4x4 off-road travel

Cheers for the reply :) It was probably how I phrased the sentence, I'm referring to the safe charging current - I will try to explain better what I mean with some questions; - Using the DC to DC would push a voltage of 14.4 to a 12.6 battery, would this be ok? - The car alternator through the...

    18650 Battery Pack for 4x4 off-road travel

Cheers JakekeKe9, I'm not there yet though, getting much closer :) Thanks daromer, I have researched a buck/boost converter, this one looks good (I will try without first as jonyjoe505 mentioned) as the max current of 12V devices I have is 4amps. I am still thinking about 7s and stepping down...

    18650 Battery Pack for 4x4 off-road travel

Cheers daromer & jonyjoe505, I have been educating myself this morning with your valued input and a bit of googling. I will probably have to invest in a decent spot welder :) I plan on changing to 3S - 3x64 cells, nom 10.8V, 94Ah battery. I'm looking at this 3S 50A 12V BMS now. I imagine I can...

    18650 Battery Pack for 4x4 off-road travel

Thanks daromer for your help :) This BMS at 30A should suit for the input DC to DC charger (max 20A) and a load max ~25A all devices at once. Yes, rePackr suggested 48cell per pack, 4S. Most likely a silly question but would it benefit to still use the charge controller? I can't think how or...

    18650 Battery Pack for 4x4 off-road travel

Hi everyone :) I was hoping some people with good experience can offer any advice before I continue any further (I have learnt as I go, making many mistakes). Note that I lost my job recently and money is very tight so I am using as many cheap alternatives as I can. I have finished testing mAH...

    Hi from Brisbane!

Thanks for the welcome! I will be using solar panels and wind turbine - also checking out thin film solar for the sails and hydro generators. Would like to avoid any form of gas, except the wind variety ;) Still working it all out. I have around 4 years before I am ready to go so no big rush :)

45c heat and my cells in the back shed - all ok!

Thanks for the info :) I think my laptop batteries are pretty old, they don't seem to go above 1700mAH, most around 700-1200. Though I have had them for around 10years, some longer, sitting in boxes...

    NERDville Project J-Who?!

Hi :) I love this project and will help however I can. I think the concept chosen is by far the best. I understand you guys must be busy, festive season and all but I would love to see an update on general progress :) Reducing power consumption is important to me as it will be running on a boat...

I just checked out your video and subscribed :) Your cells look like they all have decent mAH, did you get them new or used?

TP4056 - Voltage and Wire Gauge Questions :)

Hi all :) I am currently building an 18650 testing station: The heat-sinks (Aluminium) works extremely well with Self-amalgamating tape (great thermal performance) as electric isolator. The high temp of the TP4056 is practically gone. I'm proud of that addition! I have had a few issues...

    Hi from Brisbane!

Hi from Brisbane, AU! Hi Pete, you live here too right? That's why I can't find any laptop batteries, lol ;) I have a long term project of converting a sail boat to electric and using 18650's to power it (with safety as a major concern), this project is a few years away yet! Then I will escape...
