One handed IR jig saves my sanity!

This probably isn't a new idea to most, but for me it was a breakthrough! I got sick of man handling my YR1030 with the cord dangling and test fixture getting wacked and misaligned. Mounting them solved that problem and frees up a hand to speed up the work. I can hook it on the edge of my bench...

Some cells take 20 hours in my Opus...

Sorry it's on the cell maybe not clear, 101 ir measured on my YR1030. Don't have the cell info handy. Standard Charge Test on the Opus at 1000ma. It gets a little warm, but not like a heater.

Think it's the high IR? Are they worth keeping?

    Help ID these cells

The writing says MHDM4C9 & JE0FK17. The ends have a blue top and charge up to around 2500 and the J's actually have a bright green top and charge up to around 2000. Thanks!

Local tool shops, thanks! So lemme ask, why are you and others using a PS to power your testers instead of the wall plugs? I too have 6 Opus and a 6 outlet power strip works for me.

    White insulator ring?

Can you all point me where to find white insulators for inside the sleeves? I ordered the ones below and they are too large as they are designed for going on top of the cell.

Great info, all of it, thanks! Where are you finding these batteries? Targeting at a recycler, buying used, recycle bins, other? Unfortunately my first 2 dozen 3AH batteries have only 21-2200mAh capacity left. Well below the 80% I'd like to see. I have over 650 cells now and I'm really hoping...

4 wire IR swiper or holder?

I have my YR1030 to start testing cells but no test fixture. Below are three different types; spring loaded, ratcheting and thumb screw. Any experience or suggestions for me? All look cumbersome to use and if not mounted or affixed to something probably require two hands to load/unload...

Fingers crossed for more than 5%!!! My Yr1030 will be here any day. I've been putting off testing any but a few until I can do it the Wolf way.

Thanks Wolf! If I bump it to 4p or 5p then I have a little more wiggle room and/or the pack will be more successful? Let's define success; for this ebike battery I would be happy with one year, maybe 50 complete discharge cycles, 100 partial discharge cycles before the battery is no longer...

    Take an educated guess!

Great info, all of it! But ugh! I thought I finally had my head wrapped around everything and up comes nickel vs manganese vs cobalt :( Sounds like I also need to separate or label the chemistries of my cells if I plan on making batteries for different uses like a PW or ebike battery that have...

    Pearlescent wrap?

Where can I find the pearlescent 18650 wraps? You know the clear ones that change color as the light moves. I've seen them before but I've been Googling for an hour and can't find them. Any help is appreciated!

    Take an educated guess!

Wolf, I only took a quick glance at your IR test results, but it seems that you consider IR that's within 5% of spec to be okay. Sound right? If you think 5% is okay for a PW is 10% okay for certain applications? What about 50-100% over spec but still below 100mQ? Maybe low drain or maybe...

    Take an educated guess!

*Update: this thread has gone OT with discussion of cells to help in my project. You are still welcome to guess without reading anything! So far we have 26%, 35% and 40%. I harvested 460 untested cells from those 80 batteries.* I finally have my first 80 laptop batteries to harvest. Who wants...

Configuration to support 1000watt 24v inverter

Exactly what I did! I had grand plans of creating a couple of 6s74p batteries to compliment my Tesla batteries. Turns out that's a lots cells! So I'm gonna practice building a 36v 10s3p pack for my wife's ebike first.

Configuration to support 1000watt 24v inverter

Going a little further, not knowing your load demands, let's assume a few things. You have 1000w max, let's say you need 500w continuously for 8 hours per day. (A different assumption is at the very bottom) 500w divided by 25v is 20 amps. So a 20p pack would be the minimum you need in this...

Configuration to support 1000watt 24v inverter

Not really. 1000/24=41.6 amps. 24v is almost empty for 7s. You'll spend more time closer to 25v so call it 40 amps. Everyone else's tips are great, so call it 7s40p if you only want to draw one amp per cell. Beyond that 40p presumes you'll use 100% of your cell capacity, which you shouldn't. I...

    I keep popping my 18650's!

No I think they were powertool cells, which were shit capacity anyway. Noob mistake but they were free. I have just started on my laptop cells (also free). I have some very small needle nose pliers that I'll those. Thanks all! I think my pliers are too big. Some cells are definitely more...
