I have a mk3, they are great and yes it was jlpcb i ordered my boards from and a friend kindly gave me some updated ones.
All credit goes to Stuart Pittaway for the BMS design, I've been modified the code and implemented influxdb/grafana integration so it uses the same gui etc...
Been a long time since i updated the thread. I've now moved my powerwall into the garage as i'd like to start better using the power so have purchased a GTIL2 1000wSun inverter which shall feed back into the house to offset the power usage a bit. My resting usage is quite low during the day so...
Thanks guys, i'll knock up a quick serial to wifi to RS232 interface and try to get some info out over modbus protocol. Be interesting to see if it is possible to emulate the wifi adaptor, looks like they are nearly 50 which is a bit much for what it is.
Reading through with interest, for anyone who's interested in very small scale tinkering there is a 50w design on thingiverse which is pretty cool (not usable power i accept but a cool toy and good enough to keep my kids happy)

Is there a way to talk with the inverter over the RS232 interface? I see mention of RS485 earlier in the thread but can't see any applications to connect.
I'm going to use the limiter it came with so don't need to control the limiting externally although it would be handy i'm just curious...
It sounds easier than it is, i'm working on something just like this and have it working for the monitoring part and need to implement the balancing but it's a bit clunky.
I've started doing this using ATTiny85's powered by each pack and then an ESP8266 as the control so to speak. Just monitoring currently but going to use a power resistor for top balancing.
Like it! using the 30A version of that charge controller as well as a 10A variant as well. Are you monitoring the individual series voltages or the pack as a whole?
Using grafana here for monitoring with some php scripts, would be cool to compare how you've achieved yours.
Cheers Guys
I've got it setup with grafana now which is monitoring the voltage and power output etc, working really well. I documented how i did the installation and script so if people are interested i can do a writeup and possibly a youtube video showing the installation. I've attached a grab...
The front of the playhouse is north facing so wouldn't be great for panels, also that is the side which faces the house, i prefer the nicely hidden panels on the south facing rear and my neighbours can look on them :-)
Well the battery part of the project is nearly finished, i now have all my packs built and installed. It's a 7s 96p pack. At the moment it's only fed by a 10A charge controller and two 100w panels in series, i do plan an extension for the playhouse so can then fit another two panels to give 400w...
Would love to see some details on the BMS side of things. I have just built a monitoring solution using an attiny85 to measure the voltage of each pack and then linked to an esp8266 via an optocoupler. No balancing though, was looking at fitting a power resisitor on each module so that i could...
Using the website from chris bird which is http://repackr.com/ is great to make sure the packs are balanced and lessen the top/bottom balancing issues, i setup a 24p7s setup and it worked really well. Are you in the UK?
If you already have some 12v power supplies which have a 2.1mm barrel connector then you may want to consider the liitokala 4 cell charger/discharger which is very cheap, will be slightly lower tomorrow.
