I am back to getting 18650 cells from medical packs. I have seen some very dented and damaged cells. But this one is the worse I have seen:

Folks that hear about the high output polymer lithium ion batteries that light on fire at the drop of the a hat.
No so with these 18650 cells, while I would not stab them with a nail, these things can take quite a beating.
I think this one is a bit too dented for my powerwall up grade.

Not to be a stickler but these are from a NineBot scooter same as the cylindrical packs not medical. :)

Really??
Dang, I swear that Battery Clearinghouse called them medpacks before, but you are, of course, correct, then are now listed as scooter packs!

They were possibly mislabeled on the site and other users perhaps brought it to their attention and they corrected it.
The amount of packs and cells they get and have to process for resell is pretty large, so mistakes on labeling can happen.

On about the images, that's some major denting. wow. I'm going to guess those cells were almost 0V before that happened, though. Otherwise there'd been some fireworks.

Yeah, no big deal, I just have been referring to them incorrectly.
Surprisingly, almost all of the rest of the cells in the pack where over 2.5V and useful.
I fully expected that complete pack to be a bust.

Kreosan turned one to flare with far less damage from a hammer, was the cell discharged before it was smashed like this?_

how the heck ! ... next question does it still hold charge lol

No clue, I just picked up the pack and that was what it was like. No evidence of any problems with nearby cells, or any obvious damage to the rubber that it was packed in.

I questioned Battery Clearing House about these cells before I bought them as the description it stated that some cells are damaged due to their disassembly process. He tried to put a stop to this when he discovered what was happening. Well your batch is proof that you just can't get good help anymore. Hence the lower price compared to the cylindrical packs. I never got any quite that badly damaged but I got around 40 cells that were not acceptable and severely damaged and another 10 or so that had dents in them I considered excessive. I also never saw any signs of fire or explosions on any of the severely damaged cells and the rest of the cells in the pack were usually 2.5 or so volts. Which basically indicates that if a cell is at that voltage level your chance of having a major fire or disaster is very limited as there is not really any energy left in the cell.
Now a fully charged cell thats different.
