Hi there,

After a gamble I got 8 second hannd nissan leaf modules of 7.4volts 66Ah. Each module has 4 cells (2 in series and 2 in parallel).
I would like to put 7 modules in series in order to use a 48v trolling motor.
Quite new at all of this I am searching for a BMS but got a little bit lost in what to chose...

Would somebody have any recommendation?

Cheers Marthe

I don't have info on trolling motors but quick search showed a 5hp at 1200w. You need to take the watts and divide by 48 to get the amps you need. For example, 1200w/48v = 25a. Then take 25a and add some headroom - so 35a or 40a or 50a. Not sure if trolling motors have 'surge' of power? or just smoothly run up from 0a -> 25a. Bottom line - you need to settle on minimum amps needed for your situation.

You have 14 cells in series (2 per nissan leaf unit) so you need 14s.

You can search 14s lithium-ion BMS and get a tone of options...

For example - BatteryHookup (I know personally to be a reputable source) carries 14s and 100a BMS $80 with bluetooth capability for smart-phone monitoring - https://batteryhookup.com/products/...6&_sid=16570892a&_ss=r&variant=36287975522466 BUT they're out of stock at this moment.

On the no-frills end... a 14s and 40a, no-frills DALY BMS $30 may work for you - https://www.amazon.com/DALY-Battery...1a0b4&pd_rd_wg=il4bh&pd_rd_i=B0876SQVQJ&psc=1

I'm sure you'll get some other recommendations :)

O great, Thank you so much already, it gives me a good confidence boost to what to look for.
A yes for the trolling motor itself I think at maximum/full throttle it will drain 43amps but this will be much lower most of the time. :)
