Hi all,

i already registered yesterday and posted a few posts, but in the evening my account had disappeared suddenly!?
I was not able to log in nor was my username (the same as now, "paddy72") found by the machine.
Also all my posts seem to have disappeared.

What happened here???

what was your old account name? Nothing has happened server-side to prompt such an issue.

how many posts - forum log says your name spamed?

Please check again and reply here. I think I found an issue - might have been something you posted that trigered

My postings from yesterday are still missing. I posted in the Thread "

Grad Student Looking for Research in used Lithium 18650 Cells" and some others - all missing

I really wonder what triggered the spam??

for only a few posts its not worth too much more digging i'm sorry. I wonder if after restoring it, there are two accounts.. I will check later when i get more time and merge them if i can.

I will think twice before i post here next time and spead all my ideas and experience. Quite dissapointed about that time waste ...

If you concentrate too much on bad things, without looking over to good things coming after... £$%&/(CONNECTION INTERRUPTED :p

I'm disappointed with the result but I can't figure a way to get back the information without restoring a backup, unfortunately, that'll remove all posts since.

The forum had issues with shady spam bots, that wrote some fancy words and hid a link behind some text advertising shady buisnesses.
Your message about the AI stuff from drbacke looked somewhat simmilar to one of those messages and your account was pretty new.

Dont take this too hard towards yourself, sometimes those things just happen.

I take pride in the speed and accuracy spam is removed or even stopped before it's posted. I spend hours every day deleting bs accounts. Some days there is a lul in spam then you just get smashed. Between this forum & fb is madness!

Its not really satisfying when you cant find the cause of the problem. I am not aware of saying anything shabby or offensive, so i dont know how to behave the next time. When you take time to explain your experience and everything is gone without an obvious reason - thats no fun. So i hope you can find the cause and cure it for the next time. In any case, before deleting everything, someone should look over it - and this should be human - not any stupid AI.

Is it that difficult to search for somebodies posts in the backup? If it is, there's something wrong with your setup.

Ouch this is a labor of love not of commercial enterprise with a full IT staff. We all understand that losing some creative writing has its disappointment and certainly can be frustrating. Believe you me I have and it can be maddening. One thing I have learned though is that if I plan to write a novel on SLS, I tend to write it in word or another text editor (it's more for the sake of the reader, spelling you know) than in the web browser. I have had power failures, PC lockups, and the occasional neutrino mess up my work and make it disappear so I know your pain. Collect your thoughts redo your posts and we will all be happier without pointing fingers or complaining.
Life happens get used to it.
I did and I am much happier because of it.

Not really. a user that may be flagged as a spammer (not implying you by any means) is usually deleted. Why keep junk data in storage taking up valuable space?

It is also possible that your account got caught in a mis-click. We are human. We make mistakes. The take away is to learn from those mistakes and try to not make them in the future. In the future, we can have the auto-spam detection tweaked a little more.

The last 2 weeks or so have been pretty much bot free from my view.
This is because there are several of us across the globe that are able to keep tabs on things. "You" may not have seen them, but we've seen them on the back end ;)
However, to be honest, the surge has slowed over the past month. This is probably because the spammers are taking what they learned and recoding their bots for a new blast.

@paddy72 I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please do not be discouraged. Just note that we are aware you are a real person and not some shady bot.

Mis-Clicks can and DO happen :(

Kori does a stellar job over many MANY years controlling spam, and sorting threads, there would seem like less spam but I'm now checking several times an hour in my waking hours and deleting it as they Join.

This is an example of typical spam deleted before a post is made -
