Advice needed for building Powerwall from EV batteries

ALL NEW - Battery Finder Search for 12/24/36/48v or by capacity www.batteryfinder.net

Battery Hookup has a lot of different kinds of EV packs you could get. Some of them you can use as is and just hook your bms up to it and connect to charger/inverter and away to the races you go.

Biggest question though to start off is, where are you located? EV packs in the US aren't necessarily the same availability as in the EU or other locations.

I live in Alaska and there's a wrecking yard that crushes cars, they take out the battery pack and have them for cheap

Ahhh. Well, might be a good idea to list what EVs are there to see if they are reclaimable for use in powerwall.

There are some EVs that use NMH or NiCad (depending on age), which I wouldn't recommend, however @100kwh-hunter would counter :p

But most will be some form of Lithium Ion. The question is, what packs are these in and are they worth tearing apart to get at the good stuff. Some packs, skids, are too intricate to disassemble. Others are easy to pop apart or can be used as-is.

Do you have ideas of what kinds of EV packs they have there available?

I am looking for the NMC li-ion, I have just talked with him yesterday and needs to see what is in storage. I don't mind spending time to get them apart. I am a disabled veteran on limited income, and lot's of time and willing to learn

I am going to check back in the morning, thanks for helping 😊

As far as EV batteries, to give you some ideas, there's a couple of resources I would suggest.
1) Using a Leaf pack 'as is' - you might check out @Dala...
on this forum - here's a thread to get started - https://secondlifestorage.com/index.php?threads/dalas-battery-emulator.12471/
and youtube - @Dala's EV Repair

2) @DavidPoz youtube channel - he's torn down a BMW battery here

3) Another youtuber @Goign Off Grid I really like and following for many years has some some EV teardowns and Leaf upgrades and other interesting stuff with EV batteries. Here's some examples...

Roger that, much appreciated! I am still waiting to hear back from the auto crusher on what he has. I will have to keep it simple and safe as I am on limited funds. I already have a Samsung setup from the NMC 94AH x 72 in 13S/6P for 51V running an Outback VFX3648. I bought those brand new about two years ago. here in Alaska I just need more storage and of course panels!
