Any Hybrid Inverters work with DIY batteries?

Interested to hear if anyone has found a aftermarket bms that is compatible with solax inverters or a work around of, was looking at these Inverters and making up diy battery pack
 
SolaX X1-AC would be a perfect inverter for this purpose:


But it seems they are now replacing this model with "retrofit" models, that no longer support configurable battery voltages etc. So you must use CAN connected battery.

Deye has very interesting solar hybrid inverters with 48V freely configurable battery:

They can charge and discharge to the grid! You can set timers, charge at 5000W during 00-05, then discharge at 1000W at 10-18 for example..

But surprisingly expensive devices.
 
Bought a 5kW Deye. :)

I'm now building my battery pack. It's from a 23kWh pack from Think City EV. It's quite nice pack, it has 16pcs of 44V modules, 12S li-ion.

Each module has i it's own BMS which I plan to reuse, they communicate with CAN and the protocol is well documented online..

I am developing a plug and play BMS master that will be compatible with Solax AC units including the new retrofit systems, and potentially HVDC Solis too.

Will be looking for testers shortly.
 
The DEYE hybrid inverter works with any low voltage battery, lead acid, lifepo4, li-ion etc.
The inverter (both single phase and 3-phase available) can be programmed very simply to work with any BMS. I had a Storedge hybrid inverter of excellent quality but it is very limited in choice of batteries so I replaced it with a 10 kw DEYE three phase hybrid inverter and sold the Storedge in the 2nd hand market. Evidently the help desk of Storedge refused any cooperation to utilise another battery then their own choices stating nonsense safety requirements as reason.

Hi PJ, yes many manufacturers are not wanting to share info or knowhow... Think they want their little monopoly... but hey they have probably invested millions?
I am more looking at HV batteries due to size and charging speed, the cost for a few Kw of LV batteries and the equipment required I don't think would make a dent in my Bills.
Take into account I live on a farm burning oil....

Deye also makes hybrid inverters three phase for high voltage batteries (160 - 800 V). They are rated at 25 - 50 KW. Look at www.deyeinverter.com
A big advantage of the one I have is that it is grid connected but the batteries take automatically over when the grid fails

No problem. Is the pack complete with cell management units, loom and current sensor?

I'm new to this forum, i have a Huawei inverter, any chance of using your BMS with it?
 
Nothing for that brand. If it is a low voltage hybrid it may be compatible with LG RESU. Try your luck here.
 
A long time ago I got myself an SMA SunnyIsland and a larg'ish 48V LiFePO4 pack (300Ah) and was going to develop my own BMS, you know, for the fun of it. There was some scattered info on the protocol used over CAN which I know I have copies of somewhere. This was just before the market got flooded by the cheap chinese BMS' and I did do bits and pieces, but then life got in the way.
I now have a Solax Hybrid X3 G4 and was going to buy the Parallel Solax BMS and a few of the T58 slave modules to add storage to my installation, and I would have if it wasn't for the constantly fleeting stocks and rising prices. So, the obvious course of action, try my own DIY again...

However, looking for clues on the used protocol between BMS and Inverter proved much harder than anticipated, actually making me regret a little bit the decision of going for Solax, but here we are.

All this long winded introduction to say I would very much like to help with this, and would appreciate any help I can get too. I can continue with the plan to buy something already supported by Solax so we can sniff and reverse engineer if that is the most helpful thing to do, otherwise I can create a test rig to try out whatever is already known about the protocol. I am going to read back on this thread and follow the eventual links passed around to get up to speed on the current state of this effort now, just wanted to "state my intentions". Now you know :)

I am guessing your Solax inverter is HV?
You might also want to look at this thread.... Keep in mind that Solax and Foxx are just about identical system when it comes to the coding....

Hey there. Yes, it is HV and is exactly the same one you are buying, I believe.
