Hello,

New to the batrium watchmon 4 with expansion board.

I tried searching the batrium and this site to see how to configure the charge and discharge relay. What I came up with from reading the online documentation is to use the discharge and charge on for the discharge relay and charge relay respectively. The problem I'm having is that the charging control logic is always showing off state even though everything is within the tolerances (all of the states are ticked blue except for the bypass session; this one is not set).

How do I get the charging to start working? how can I get the bypass session to set? Am I doing this right or is there another way to control and charge/discharge relay

thank you

Agree with @mike - screenshot of your settings would help for charge/discharge.

For bypass - its Hardware -> Cellmon page... "Bypass Volt" setting for top end bypass to start:

And you can also do some balancing with Auto-Level....

Are you using the critical state to trigger this? If yes, can you please attach a screenshot of the settings under Control Logic > Critical tab and the Hardware > Expansion tab?
Hello @mike ,

Thank you. Currently, I have to rewire the blockmons (batteries are in separate containers and the there is a problem with the wiring which is giving me a network error).

I'll post the screenshots later today once I get back to the vehicle (albeit with the network error; I ordered new wiring to redo all of the wiring using the proper cable - I used cat 6 solid. I just read the recommendation to use stranded, which I ordered).

Anyways, I'm hoping to control a separate charge and discharge relay using this BMS. I'm not sure if I'm setting it up correctly.

Thanks again

Hello,

I'm using "charging on" and "discharging on" in the hardware settings using two outputs on the expansion board pin 5

In my WM4+Expansion, I see "Discharging On" and "Charging Off" options... (I don't see charging on).

I used Critical Fault for a while for my Shunt Trip but have recently switched to Critical Pulse On - but both of these are 'generic' Critical event. I've not used Charge/Discharge and I agree that the online Batrium docs are pretty sparse - so I'm interested in this topic as I don't really know how it works either.

As @mike said - can you share your settings with some screen captures so we can see exactly what you're doing? (Windows+Shift+S does a nice job on win 10).

Hello,

I bought some replacement parts and got the system back up and running. Here is the snapshot. I still can't get the system to go into charging state

Interesting. The Discharging page clearly shows "[Auto ] [X] On State" - so one would think the Relay 1 with Discharging On would close. The only 'nit' I see is this where Actual is below Cell Low Resume - but have no idea how this works or if that would affect anything.

FYI - The reason I couldn't see "Charging On" as an option in the relay drop down (above comment) was because the selection list went up and was being cut-off by the top of the computer screen (instead of going into scroll mode) so I didn't see it until I moved the whole interface downward on the screen.

Yeah, from reading the docs, my understanding is that when the system charges, it will disconnect when it reaches the cutout voltage and charging will resume when it reaches the resume voltage. I have set the resume to be lower, ie 3.0V with no effect

That is the problem. How do I get the system to go into the ON state?
Yes sir I'd love to know more about this myself. I notice that in addition to "Auto" there is "Manual On" - does choosing "Manual On" force it on (e.g. to test the relay perhaps)?

Yes it does
Then, it would seem (to my way of thinking) that Charging = "ON state" should trigger the relay... but its not. Either there's a bug or we're missing something or some other related setting/issue. I hope someone can explain - maybe someone from Batrium is monitoring this.
