Greetings,

I purchased the Batrium WM5 to use with my Leaf Cells, I am using it without the Batrium Leaf cellmons. Is there anything wrong with not using the cellmons from Batrium?

This is a great community and I have learned alot from all of you, thank you.

As I understand it - the WM5 is lighter-weight-balance system that doesn't use external mons. You wire the battery up to WM5 and it as 'mons' built-in. The limitation is that its only 14s (you can't expand beyond that) so you have to parallel any additional cells into a single 14s hookup.
BUT - please consult Batrium (and others) as the authority as I only have experience with WM4.

As last Said. Wm5 is a more light weight unit. Limited to what you can run

Thank you both for the replies.
I am happy with this BMS, just have regrets on its limited functionality, considering its price point. I think i will be looking at the DIYBMS v4 for any future projects. But it does the job on my leaf pack.

Leaf cells are super stable - you wont need large balance currents... So the WM5 should be fine?

Yes the WM5 will do fine, its works great.
Its limited functionality such as lack of native protection mechanisms bother me. I know i can add the expansion board and connect a shut trip get me closer to what i look for on a BMS but the price point makes it a one time purchase versus growing the ecosystem. i will keep it and find something else for future projects.

WatchMonPlus (WM5) canbe expanded tohave extra cell monitoring using the new MultiMon-MM8 module, it allows you to add more parallel banks of batteries as required. The MM8is about to be launch in the coming weeks, just held upwhilst we finalise the documentation. From testing ona few projects over the last5 months we as very happy with its performance.

We believe that this will make the WM5 and MM8 the go to solution moving forward for a few reasons:
  • its cheaper
  • easier to commission
  • allows thebypass resistors to be mounted away from the cells
  • temperature sensor can be placed where theysuit the batterydesigner
  • at a glanceSoC% display on the supervisor
  • same eco system of expansion functionality and software support
These reasons were requested from the community andwhy we listenedand developed the product

Jaron: How many MM8 can you hook up to 1 WM5?

Is it limited to same amount of cell count as WM1 and 4 had ie 250 cells so that equals 16MM8?

Like for my Shelf type of build if I build another one i could potentially have 1 MM8 on each shelf

The Supervisorlimit is 250 cells, allowinganother 15 MultiMon but untested, thus far we the most we have added was8slave modules.

Ah cool. :)

Now this is exciting, thank you Jaron for this information!
This potentially will keep me in this eco system , I really like your app and the upcoming cumulus development further incentivizes me to stay.

Great work Batrium!

Hi,

Can I order MM8 already?
Or when do you expect to start shipping?

Best message Batrium to find out, at the very least they can add you to the list when released - support@batrium.com

Batrium says maybe a few weeks maybe more, which is kind of a bummer because I ordered a WM5 when I learned this and thought I could easily upgrade it with MM8 soon, but now that I want to upgrade it it's still a few weeks away.
