BMS in LG CHEM ESS modules

I've just my personal measurements and drawings, but I can send it to you.

If you have any diagrams or pictures that would be great

Do you have multiple modules? Would be interested if they can be balanced as mine are at two different charge levels

I've 4 modules.
At the beginning 2 were quite empty, but BMS has managed it.

Brillant

If i can get my hands on a few more I will add to my stack.

So, Your intra-battery cable is just a standard cable you made up right? and the cable to the inverter is also one you made up? Are they just RJ45/RJ48 or RJ50?

I dont have a RJ50 crimper - Yet ;)

If you have a pinout diagram/drawings that would be great

Yes, I´ve made up both cables.
The type designation depends on the seller. Sometimes they called the 10P10C RJ45 or RJ48, but it´s a RJ50.
For you it´s important that the battery has 10 pins !

Thank you very much. Time to order a 10P crimper

Hi Matthew.
I´ve find out the pins for CAN-Bus and for internal bus.
For CAN-Bus to the inverter it´s pin6 (CAN_L) and pin8 (CAN_H).
For internal bus you have to cross pin 9+10.

With kind regards,
Thorsten
So, Just to make sure I am getting this. I have attached my invert pinouts from the solax manual and guess this is exactly what the "converter" is doing in the SolaX case

I am going to get made up the following up for the inverter to battery

Inverter - Battery:
PIN 1 - PIN 8
PIN 2 - PIN 6
PIN 6 - PIN 1 ?

Which is the ground pin on the battery side. Is it the same as the intra-battery cable? Am going to get the connector and multimeter so will find out soon

Just wanted to be 100% as I am gettign them made up rather than doing myself this time

The Intra-Battery seems straight forward, well crossed over but you know what i mean ;)
PIN 1 - PIN 1
PIN 9 - PIN10
PIN 10 - PIN 9

CAN bus don´t need a GND, so just 1 to 8 and 2 to 6, not more.
Intra-battery 1/1, 2/2 ... 9/10, 10/9

Cheers, just pulled my cable out and yep, no ground

Many thanks for the assistance. Very hard to find info on these batteries. I would be interested if anyone reading this post has any going cheap/spare

I´m from Germany and knowing somebody with 4 modules for sale. But international shipping seems to be expansive.

yes, 56 euros (50 pounds).
The battery modules are new and he wants 950 euros (815 pounds) for each.
It´s up to you for paying 865 pounds for one module.

Cheers, think I will just see what pops up in the UK

Do you know if the different models can be mixed or is it best to stay with the same?

LG manual:
"These models are the same in hardware but slightly different from each other in software.
NOTE
An ESS can consist of up to 10 units of the same battery module. Using different
models of battery modules together is not permitted."

Reading the manual, the difference between the EM048063P3S4 & EM048063P3S5 is the S4 is force air cooled and the S5 is not whilst the S4 has a higher charge/discharg power/current capabilitire

The difference in the charge/discharge power & current makes sense why they cannot work together

Cheers

For those interested, here is a voltage read out of the connector... the Dupont wire is inserted at one of the 2 highest voltage. I placed in red the cell number (I think it is correct. Anybody knows why I am getting 4 times 24.1 volts ? I am going to use a Daly 14S 200A. I have ordered a connector but Digi Key is out of stock, so I am using straight crimpled pins.

I would double/triple check the voltages. The 7th cell is on 4 pins perhaps it has something to do with the bms that originally controlled these ESS modules. Wire all four no.7 wires together same with no.14 or cut and tape the extras. Which pin is the negative should be one of the unnumbered pins maybe one on each half.

Hey Floyd:
regarding (Which pin is the negative should be one of the unnumbered pins maybe one on each half) I was going to simply wire the negative bms wire straight to the main negative terminal of the battery. Any reason or suggestion to connect it somewhere else?
On the connector, I see for these positions (between the 4 cell 7 24.1V readings) 2 blue wires with 0V and they are going together in the battery bundled together.

For the 4 "24.1" volt (supposed cell n°7) do you think I should wire them together for the BMS? Don't you think that this 4 "sources of information" for the voltage of cell n°7 for the original LG BMS had other purposes? (maybe powering something else through the interface). I don't want to make a mistake on the wiring, before I connect the BMS

Shouldn't make a difference where the negative is connected main negative or the wiring harness.
I suppose the extra 24v wires and the extra 48v wires could be powering something on the original bms.
I opened my LG RESU wiring harness up after cutting the large connectors off the end. I know the purple wires went to thermistors on mine.
Here is the thread https://secondlifestorage.com/index...f-an-lg-chem-resu-10h-system.9532/#post-65119
Might find something in the thread that will help.
Best of luck

Hey Floyd:
After struggling with the set up of the DALY BMS, I was able to get it going and connecting Bluetooth !!! (took me a while ). So here is attached the cell reading with the connection scheme from above. (see my excel document).
Now do you know where I can find a configuration document for proper settings?
