Not exactly a "powerwall" question but I figured this was the best place to ask.

I currently keep two UPS12-300MR 12v AGM batteries in parallel to run an inverter. It is semi-portable for me. Sometimes it goes camping, other times it helps me run things at home when the power goes out. (I live in the city but the power seems to go out once a week!)

Anyway, I love how easy this system is to use and how effective it is for me. But it is about that time to replace the cells.

It's about 160 pounds of gear to supply 78ah of battery.

I've been watching all of your videos on youtube and spending the past week learning as much as I can through osmosis.

On to my question

I want to put together a LifePo4 pack to replace my AGM batteries. 12v. 4s. I'm looking at either 60ah or 100ah cells.

I would LOVE to be able to charge these somehow from in my vehicle. Definitely need to be able to charge them over 110v.

So what are my options to properly manage a system like this? All of the chargers and BMS units I have found seem to be for small hobby sized stuff, ebikes, etc. 5 or 6 amps.

I found the the SKYRC RS16hobby charger. It's 16 amps, has DC input and a balancing system. Smaller than I'd like and I feel like I'd burn it out charging a 400ah bank.

Anyway, any tips or tricks or links to non crappy Chinese products would be helpful! Thanks guys!

Hi Aaron,

I'm just one guy, but I think the type of batteries 99% of people are using here in this forum are lithium ion 18650 cell based. I know Jehu Garcia (do Youtube search) has LifePO4 used but tested batteries for sale at $45 for 85 ah of power.

Here is a link to a non crappy Chinese inverter charger line: www.sigineer.com. I really like the 6kw/48vDC input model. I'm sorry but I dont know anything about charging from the vehicle, except that there are solar chargers out there that handle DC.

They have some pretty nice looking inverter/chargers. Nice that they can do LifePo4 - Seems none of the American companies offer much in terms of LFP yet.
