Hi guy's

Merry Christmas to you all.

I opened up a few small presents this morning and it appears that the Mrs does actually listen to me when I prattle on about batteries etc. I've been telling her about these amazing dashboards I've seen to display battery/solar data.

So anyway I'm now the proud owner of a Raspberry Pi 3B, Raspberry Pi 3B+ (she got me both as she didn't know what one is needed), a Pi enclosure with fan, a 5V 3A switched power supply, a USB to TTL converer, loads of header leads and a 64 GB micro sd card. I guess she takes a lot more notice than I give her credit for.

So now I have this major issue. I've absolutely no idea how this stuff works, how to program it or even where to start.

If at the very least i could remotely access the information from my Chinese BMS it would be amazing.
If I could also display the data from my solar inverters and my charger/inverter that would be totally awesome.

Can anyone provide me with an idiots guide to the best learning sources for a complete noob, I've been surfing the web all day and I'm even more confused now than I was this morning if thats even possible.
Or if someone has done something already that I could attempt to play with and promptly screw up that would be cool.

Daromer I put your ISO on the Pi 3B, I've managed to boot it up and display it all on a monitor, (for me that's a bonus), but have no idea how to get the info from my equipment into it and how to make it work.

Thanks in advance guy's for any help Chuck
Happy Christmas

It's a bit of a learning curve but worth the effort!
Have a look at your BMS & see what interfaces it has to start with.
Maybe Google for xxx BMS monitoring or display.

I 've been searching online for reference on how to compile the programming needed to make it all work, but I can't seem to find any examples that work. Everything I've copied into python so far says I have syntax errors. That maybe wouldn't be a problem if I new the syntax to start with.

I haven't managed to find a good reference source for all the commands to study yet.

Then I need to work out how it all cables together and make it communicate.

It's going to be fun, just don't know where to start with it.

This site is a great (& free) way to start, see the python section here:
https://www.w3schools.com/python/default.asp
Many other useful sections - it's how I figured out how to code my RPi ! :)

I found code for my victron gear here & re-wrote to suit (in french but use google translate):

https://translate.google.com.au/tra...ttps://github.com/kepon85/PvMonit&prev=search

It's grown a lot from there.

cool I'll check them outcast soon as I have time.

Merry Christmas and best of luck to you in you search for knowledge .
Congrat's on the Great Lady! If we were all that lucky to get such cool gifts.

Yeah she's a gud'un, she always puts a lot of thought into it.
It was so cool opening them all up. I never thought she actually listened to me prattle on about bateries. But there she did, I guess I best start taking more notice of her when she's rabitting on about her crafts, kniting, sewing, quilting and stuff. :p

Crafts, knitting, sewing, quilting and stuff. lol
I build tube amplifiers and there cabinets as one of my hobby's.
You should see the older lady's faces when I'm looking through the fabric to find a good material to cover the cabinets with. I get some strange looks and questions!
I can just picture you asking for yarn or knitting needles ! ...... Like me asking for yellow tweed.
Your in for a interesting trip to your local craft store. Lol
