Hello ,

I'm still in the process of builduing my Powewall ( collecting and testing cells ),
but have a temporary Battery allready connected to my two Pips to be able to use solar power a bit.
Atm only everything in my Backjard is running on this offgrid system.
The batteries don't have a BMS jet, they are build of three extended 36V e-bike Batteries ( plus 4 x 6Cells ) to get up to 48Volt.
I check them daily regarding their voltage.

When to much load for this small Battery bank is used ( for example lawn mower and poolpump) , it can occure, that one cell block in the packs gets under 3 Volt.
I would like to avoid such situations, therefore my question:

How do I have to set the parameters in Watchpower that way, that only SolarPower and aminimum to nothing of the Batterypower is used and if Solar is not sufficient, it shortly switches to grid?

You cant. The off grid invertes are made to have primary source on the battery. If you want you can switch it over to grid manually or create external software controlling it manually.

But with that said it will continue to use the battery to power the inverter (60+watt all the time)

The off grid inverters cannot combine grid with solar/battery. In that case you need to turn on AC charging but its not what you look for. What you look for only exist on Hybrid inverters if we call it like that.

Sorry.

Regarding AC voltage charging. This potentially can work as you want. Ie set it to start charging the battery when below a set voltage. This potentially evens out what you look for but its a rather high loss doing that. In such cases its alot better to just turn off the Inverter and run from the grid :)

Since AC charging loose up to 20% and then inverting it back to AC you loose up to another 20% depending on use case and all that.

Hi Daromer,

thanks for the explanation. Although i knew that they need a Battery to run, I expected them to be configured to the way I described. My mistake.
So this means until at least 5kWh of Battery Power im not able to switch my complete House to the off grid system and I definetly need some equipment that cheks Battery voltage on Cellpack level like a BMS, thatlets the inver switch to grid automatically.
The issue with my temporary Battery of three original 36V e-bike Batteries that I extended to 48Vis, that I would need a configurable BMS for each single Battery (3x) and none of the cheap chinese BMS I found is configurable the way that I want to use them in the area of 4.0Volt down to 3.5V only. And the smart BMS you tested is the same as the Batrium System to expensive for this usage.

Thanks again,

I will ask further (technical) quetsions in a defferent thread.

Correct. I would use external software to controll the inverter to fr what you want but as Said its costly to run this type of inverter like you want since the Idle current only runs on the battery.
