So I thought that I'd make a thread about this, welcome to follow the journey!

So the first thing that is now ongoing, is a 7.2kW solar install, that will be feeding into a Fronius Symo Gen24 5.0kW inverter. I made a video on the installation, will make a follow up once we commission the system :)

Nice Walde!

It will be interesting to see how hard it will be to reverse engineer something that works with the Fronius inverter. Right now the only option is to buy the proprietary battery packs that are silly expensive. It's just Modbus RTU, so I'm looking forward on getting started :)

Hi Dala,
It is going to be an exciting project. I think it's possible to reverse engineer the battery protocol. I had to chance to do it with a Goodwe inverter without having the proprietary battery. The project is here, but my inverter uses a CAN bus communication.
One of our forum members, @powertrack, uploaded some logs about communication between the Fronius inverter and the BYD battery. But this is some high-level log and doesn't contain real-time data from the RS-485 bus. So we don't know the right Modbus registers, and I wonder whether the inverter or battery is a master device.

Yesterday I got this picture from the energy provider, smart meter that can measure exported kWh is now installed in the main incoming electrical cabinet (for free!).

Today is the day. The system is now up'n'running for the first time. I am mesmerized by all the settings and visualizations that the Fronius system comes with, so here's a screenshot of the dashboard.

Now to let it run and collect some data, and we can start on integrating batteries soon :)
