Hi guys,

I am in the midst of deciding a bench power supply for my battery projects that can work as charger too. CC CV and all types of protection is a must. Variable voltage and current control, 24v maximum voltage and 30A maximum current. I would like to have something smart like switching from CC to CV for battery charging, battery capacity calculation, and instant supplied power screen.

I am asking for your guidance. Buy or build? I like to build and I believe it is cheaper. I would appreciate it if you can point to some open source DIY projects.

Regards,

Its cheaper to buy a dc/dc kit that is powered from a PSU of some kind. 30A is quite alot :)

A Step down that can be used but you need to add amp and voltage screen. Not as fancy

Or DPS5020 though not 30a

There is another version that i dont find now that is even nicer with larger display.

Thanks daromer. The buck board is more suited to fixed setups due to lack of screen. The DPS5020 is quite fancy although I wonder why they forgot the case :). Btw, 30A wasn't a must. It is just what I expect my main bench ps should be.

I will look for the driver fixed PSU first. Do you think I can charge a battery using the CC then switch automatically to CV?

But it only do step down not step up so you maybe need two pc psu in series it's isolated so it should be fine

Pc psu often only have 12v
You can just use a server psu it have 48v and several kw it's more then enough for your project but it's big and not easy to get
I see. Do you what are the risks of taking voltage directly from my main power outlet at 220v after rectifying and smoothing of course by capacitors?
The buck has all kind of protections, right?

Server psus work fine to serialize seveal but you need go remove the grounding. Or buy a 60VDC PSu from the start for above.

Buck converters are not isolated so it will still be live and can shock you
