Yeah with big powerwalls we have so much storage capacity I don't really see a need to go above 4v, I prefer to keep my cells as comfortable as possible to make them last longer.
It also add a safety margin when if your packs are not perfectly balanced

Adding to that from my own experience with not perfectly build cells even if i went down to 4.0v I would lose no useable capacity just due to the fact the cells would be more balanced bottom end anyway. *might go drop mine to 4v this weekend :)

Ooops, I think I added 74 kWh of storage capacity...

This car is simply amazing! it ads a big buffer to the instalation, I'm going to set a new record with more than 38 kWh gathered from the sun today, and it's not even summer

How do you manage the solar-charging without pulling form your powerwall unless necessary - and not pumping it out to the grid?
Ie. how do you charge directly from solar?

RS485 to the tesla walladaptor, special charger, or just manually?

For now I am doing it manually, I made the two EVSE, one for the Nissan Leaf with a Simple EVSE board, one for the Tesla with the Mainpine controller, I can select the power of both EVSE simultaneously with a selector and a load shedding device can also drop the charging rate to avoid stressing the inverter above 6000w.

By the way I'm offgrid ;)

ok just read this thread... OH MY GOODNESS... your thread has given me so much encouragement and ideas. thanks so much for sharing your journey.

I have two nissan leaf's, 9KW of Solar and 12 KWH or lead carbon batteries (soon to be replaced with a power wall... ok maybe not soon) one leaf i purchased almost four years ago and the other i purchased crashed and repaired to go petrol free.

Merci

There's a great use for a tesla !

First of all... compliments for your setup!

Like you I want to install the Victron components with my DIY power wall. I already have a venus GX up and running. It's connected to an EM24 meter so I can see what's imported/exported to the grid. Also the Venus GX does communicate with my SolarEdge SE10K inverter via Modbus TCP so I can see the production of my solar panels. The next step is to add a Multiplus or Quattro.

Did you do the installation of the Quattro yourself or was it done by an installer? I've done my SolarEdge installation myself but the Victron seems to be a bit more advanced...

Thanks,

I did the installation, it was pretty simple partly because I'm offgrid so I'm not using all the features of the Quattro. The only thing I had to deal with was the neutral/grounding setup in order to have my EVSE working but Victron thought about this and it is just a relay to activate in the configuration menu.

Can you use the stored energy of your tesla for powering other things? Wondering if you can use a Tesla like a Powerwall at the moment!?

No, not directly, but in case of emergency you can run a small inverter on the 12v plug or the 12v battery.

Sorry to ask, but how do you charge your cars?
With that small board? no?yes?
How?
Could you post a wiring diagram?
More questions than answers, sorry.

Good inspiration, thank you for your build, effort and work!

Thanks in advance and best regards, Igora
