That's some very nice work ... very orderly and professional , and some serious storage capacity ...

The question must be , with so much capacity , what do you charge up to ? ... it seems to get the max life from the cells 3.9 or 3.8 is the highest we would want to go ??? Discharging no lower than 3V?

Charge to 4.0 when it's good weather, 4.1 if i know we have a few cloudy days, 3.57 is bottom voltage or 57.4 & 50v

Thanks for the live youtube this am, or was it your pm. Good to see you chat about alternatives to the parts you are using. I wish someone would come up with an easier way of interconnecting the batteries.

There are many ways of doing it, using those four cell holders from Amazon many are 3D printing solutions. My way is not the only way to approach this type of DIY project - do your own research and see if you can make it better!

I will be ordering more LongMons & maybe aBridge Connectto attach them to my packs in the next week or so, so far I'm totally impressed with what this BMS offers. The more I ask the more it seems to do. But for now totally happy with it's monitoring and reporting abilities and how about fans to keep shed cooler!

Long awaited updated project cost.

This is as good as it gets for how much I've spent, don't burn me on the little details take it for what it is.

If you have questions please ask :D

Updated Price List

The killer is the battery cost though... if you can't get them around $1/cell its quickly gets painfull

You should be able to get them substantially cheaper than that. At $1/cell, that's $6/pack, insanely expensive.

new to this, but where can you get them under $1/cell?

Are you talking about used laptop packs or buying brand new cells?

I guess its a matter of balance, used with life is probably the best TCO, but cannot see where to buy them...

You buy them from computer repair shops primarily. I just got a big lot at $0.75/lb. That's about $0.50 per pack, or 8 cents per cell if we assume they are 6 cell packs.

thanks, i guess you have a reasonable dead cell rate? hmmm might ring around a bit here in Perth

Yes, but people buy the dead cells on eBay. Don't ask... I don't know why, but they do. You end up profiting on them. Maybe they turn them in to a recycler for scrap value or something.

I typically buy them bulk for LESS than $1 per pack, mind you I buy 1000 packs at a time..

edit: I also don't barter, if it's a fair price I buy them out of everything they have and guarantee to do so for another 12 months. If the price is unfair, I say thank you for your time and walk away. Seems to get a batter response that way..

Cool!

The highest I've seen is $4 per pack. I certainly walked away from that place shaking my head. To this point I haven't paid a cent.

A quick question about the pricing.
You mention on the solar side you have 195w x 15 and they cost $420 in total.
Is this for the solar panels themselves? If so where can I get them from, I'll get them shipped over here to the UK for that price.
:)
