I think I'm having issues with my thermal camera that might require I take every battery out and test outside of the powerwall. Maybe even capacity test each one :( Not looking forward to that at all
 
Hopefully just the camera going nuts and the cells not getting too fussy
 
Just editing the footage now, MAYBE it was the angle I was holding it at, being right up in the corner on the ground I might not have been square enough to the battery to see to the back of it..
 
I like the repair videos. I don't have any game consoles, but if I did and one went wrong, I would surely poke around and see what I could see thanks to all the great repair video on the tube!

Don't have one close enough too me, it seems to be working well for now.

Wow, that's a pretty crazy drift from pack to pack. How many years of use have they been through?? Something like 5-7 I think? You've gotten quite a bit of life from those reclaimed cells.

You can see which ones are old than the others, tho. First 3 packs on are 1-42, right? The 4th pack are the newest to the addition, younger cells
 
first 42 are in the battery shed - they are three groups of 14cells and they are joined top to bottom kinda making one huge battery. You can see if you break it down into groups of 14 they are about the same voltages. Last 14 are in the powershed, short power cable runs so it gets hit the hardest under load. Cell 56 has been replaced 10x as it's the first positive cell I'm thinking causing it to fail faster.. always heaters in that one..
 
At 49.3v its at the lower end of the discharge curve in terms of pack voltage diff. Does the large volt diff between packs lesson as you go higher as in 54v or 56v or does the large imbalance stay same thru-out the charge/discharge curve

Also, any idea on number of cycles youve gotten?

I haven't played with voltages, was considering making some videos about that sort of thing before decommission (milk it a little more lol ) Cycles are hard, Batrium counts that but it's changed so often I have lost count of cycles on that..

the first load test and how I came up with the figure '40kWh' it was released 21 May 2016 so 7 years 8 months 17 days old ISH..... 50%dod each day put it at 1500 cycles... that's a proper guess, it could be much higher but I don't think it would be lower.

math time..

about 30kWh @0.30c/kwh ($9/day) is used per day from that solar/battery setup in 2812 days - I still suck at math but that puts estimated savings north of $25000 !!!!
 
As one with a large 18650 powerwall I’m interested in what one might expect when packs reach end-of-usefulness. Is it large pack voltage differences as it appears you have? Or other? Could you extend life with repair or aggressive rebalance if you were inclined?

I’ll be passing 2,000 cycles at avg 37% DOD this year and I’m not showing any issues

I wonder if issues will be gradual or relatively quick. Not sure how to think about it properly. Any thought you have would be welcome as you’ve been fooling with this longer than anyone I’m aware of :)

I think Pete has done a great job but maybe the quality control in the early days was not as good as it could be. I mean a lot of my cells have rust under the insulation ring which is not apparent until you 'skin' the cell. I have ended up re sleeving every single cell just to be sure.

This battery is the ultimate gen1, so many things could have been done better, built differently, built slower, and not for YouTube clicks. The "farm battery" is 1000x better built and it shows it. At this point I should be rebuilding the battery capacity testing all 56 cells and using repackr to build a more balanced battery, that task would take weeks but might just be worth it even if I ditch the lower 14 cells and just keep 42 of the best. Then add a ............................................................................................................fcuking active balancer... Ooofff i said that aloud... but old batteries can 100% benifit from active balancing if that keeps the batteries running longer than the active balancer investment..
