Every house has a steady ever present (static) load that varies, overnight ours is about 150W dropping as low 100W the rest of the time its about 250W.
Back in 2019 I started a solar project to reduce it using two Sunpower 300W E20 327W panels and a Solis 700W GTI on a flat garage roof.
Summer got the best output from the panels but there was a problem, too much power. A design criterion was to ensure that no power was fed back to the grid it had to be Zero Export. The GTI did not have this ability so I bought one of the original Immersun power diverters and excess power was sent to a 2kW oil heater located in the garage. I got a great deal of satisfaction seeing the wireless power meter go to zero for the first time.
Roll forward to 2021, we moved house and the project came with us. This time the garage is built on, with an east-west pitched roof, the number of panels has increased to four Sunpower series connected panels, two per side. The GTI has changed too, now a Solis dual MPPT inverter. The Immersun continues to do its job diverting even more power and to the very same oil heater. Now dissatisfaction, that heater gets hot, the divert needs to go into a battery but how?
Come autumn 2025, A Sun GTIL 1000 G2 limiter has been added to the mix now divert power can now go to battery or heater or both without any grid export. However, its the end of the solar year, the sun is about to drop below the main house roof pitch shading the panels.
It turns out the GTIL's 4 work period timers are not mutually independent they destructively interact with one another, the supplier is aware having looked at this video.
Can anybody guess how battery storage was achieved
