NEC 12V35i Batteries

My recycler just sent me an email regarding these Batteries. Says he has ≈40 of them. They are ® LiFePO4 chemistry and I believe as they are Model ALM000006 that they are equipped with a SMB connector. ( ALM 12V35i HP SMBus Intelligent, SMBus, High Power PLS000003 ALM000006-01)

Additionally it looks to be that they can be placed in as 4s config for 48V nominal.
I have no price as of yet just seeing if there is any interest.
If so I will pick them up and test them first to see if they are any good.

Hey Wolf - Where are you located? I have a few of these that I bought that are dead. Keep them charged. I might be interested if the price is right

Any word on the batteries? I am curious about how they turned out? I might be interested in them even if discharged.

There is some interesting information regarding UVP (Under Voltage Protection) and UVLO (Under Voltage Lock-Out) (UVLO)

For the ALM 12V35i HP CAN Bus and SMBus batteries, NEC Energy Solutions recommends disabling t communications before the battery enters into UVP state. If the battery communication port is kept active during UVP, the time to reach the UVLO state will shorten considerably due to the power draw from the battery communications circuits. In the UVP state, a battery has approximately 18 hours, at 25 °C, before reaching UVLO. Once the battery reaches the UVLO state, it has approximately 26 days before becoming permanently disabled.
It appears that if the battery sits too long it becomes disabled. Shame. Hopefully there are not too many that that happened to. We shall see.
I'm sure it is a safety thing for NEC which brings me to a question is this lockout permanent? Or can this be released through a SMbus hack?
Also I am trying to figure out how to get the data out of the SMBus got some promising arduino code to read it but if anyone has any insight pray tell.

It is permanent.... there is no way to "reboot" from outside the battery. You can drill a 3/8" hole in the side of the case, and manually charge to 10V and it will turn back on, reboot and everything should work. The problem seems to be that if the cells are low they almost always go to a discharger! I tried 4 packs got them all charged up, they were canbus, but one cell bank would slowly discharge to back to zero and the BMS would shut off again. You can cut the tops off along the seam (very shallow) and get access to the BMS unit, which is probably the best BMS I have ever seen! I would be interested in the units if you want to sell them? Let me know I can reuse the bms for a project I am working on.

Here are the locations to drill the small hole. This will give you access to the Buss bar internal to do a manual charge. Once up to say 10V it should turn on to charge from the terminals.
RE Arduino, most SMBus units need the handshake to wake up. Send a 0X80 command to it and it will start singing.

The best SMBus to Arduino reader so far.... Might need to change a few settings but this is a great framework. Dont worry about the screen crap, just use serial monitor.

Ohhh and A123 4S14P inside... Oh and please for NEC's sake don't take or post picture of the BMS.

OK well that's a lot of good information. Over the christmas holidays I will check these out in more detail. Thanks for the tip. Depending on the condition of the units how many are you looking for? I will also negotiate a price with the recycler. I did see that SMB code for the arduino in the ether and will be working on getting some data. More detailed questions PM me.

Hello Wolf, do you have any ALM 12V35I HP SM bus ALM000006-01 Lithium Ion that we can buy 8 pcs?
