New management wanted to spice it up a little lol She is gone but I pressed delete - that removes here not the messages/posts, should have hit spam and purged... lesson learned

😂

it's crazy I'm seeing mostly from Russia and they can have 20 IPs listed in under an hour.. I've never looked this close before.. New learning curve

Oh, and there was I thinking we’d be getting to rate a few babes. 😂 😂 Guess if she was spread naked over an 2000P 18650 pack that would be acceptable 😂

Hey now there’s an idea “LI babes dot com”, bit like the old babe and truck or babe and tracker sites 😂 she could be bent over spot welding 😂

If that was the case I'd hire her for a new logo & background around here to spice it up a little

Yeah, between Pete, Daniel and myself, we've been cleaning house on this little diva. There must of been easily over several hundred ip addresses that connected from. so no way to just block ips for that.

When users register & post what about a DNSBL (DNS Black list) check against a few of Blacklists. Also a check against AbuseIP APIs?

Mike is busy these days, I've been taking lots of time looking at the spam, it's fairly easy to spot the bots, lately, they have been joining and within a short time changing their email address. Some are logging in under different IPs

Too bad we can't ban ip 176.59.x.x Problem is, that's a HUGE range of actually valid addresses.

Ah nono, you're right. Usually I ban a 255 class range if I find two or more IPs where only last number changes.

I did just a quick check on the first 3 IPs you shared.

AbuseIP: 176.59.56.46 was not found in our database
DNSBL: listed in 4 motors

AbuseIP: 176.59.53.69 was not found in our database
DNSBL, listed in 6 motors

AbuseIP: 176.59.55.228 was not found in our database
DNSBL, listed in 6 motors

It does make sense using a service like AbuseIP (or similar); and also using a multi-DNSBL (each DNSBL can be queried with a simple dig/nslookup command).

it's also possible all these ips are *legit* ips that have been hacked through malware. This would be why they aren't showing up on reports, yet.
But is interesting that all the first 2 sets are the same

Definitely from Russia, St Petersburg area to be more specific:

We use StopForumSpam database, I'll look into blocking IP ranges rather than just ips. I'm still learning how to drive some of this stuff, so have to take a slower approach not to break something.

Spammers are also adversely creative, some spam posts, some messages, another sort of spam that's not really public is LinkBacking - when they create an account and put in signature a bunch of links back to a legitimate site ( I would assume this is companies selling search engine ranking services )

In the early days of RBLs I used to use zen.spamhaus.org it was quite good for email filtering. We now use a software solution that runs on a VM with yearly subscription. Keeps our spam load down next to nothing. Course I needed to adjust the filters accordingly.
Don't know what that has to do with running a BB or Forum and keeping spammers out buuut there is always the option of a human instead of AI actually approving an application. How many application per day are there? If it is a manageable amount maybe it can be delegated to an individual or 2. Or possibly a set of hoops for the applicant to go through to sign in. I know several BB/Forums have you answer a question or answer a captcha before you can join.

We already have hoops, maybe I should turn them off for a day to see what they actually do... :p
