Pack assembly

This has been discussed a lot. If you look at the build threads the vast majority of people are using fuses because it offers protection that nickel strips doesn't. You could use them on the negative side and fuse the positive side, or use nickel strip as a bus bar with fuses attached to it and the cells.
 
Summary :
Used == Fuses (fuse the unknown)
New == Nickel (confidence in your "new" product)
 
100% fuse... Its like buying a car with out having insurance on it. You would never do it.. This is insurance for anything that is near the battery or the inverter you are using.
 
I would not compare it to a car with insurance. You can run nickel strips 100% safe or close to same safety as with fused packs.

There is 100s of threads about this area before and I highly recommend to scout over them where both me and others using it for years have written long texts about our reflections and also about why others have done it.

Things like when to fuse and why fuse. For instance new vs old mixed cells.... Clumpsy installers and on powerwalls vs ebikes and so forth :)

What you will find is that:

New cells are generally only put together with nickel strips and no fusing. Not on Ebikes and high current small packs either
Fuses are used on powerwall packs with mixed 2nd hand as extra layer and most of the time they have protected for "USER" error....

Thanks for the input. How many amps can nickel strip handle? I've got a roll of .15x88mm.
 
Nickel strip comes in different sizes. The thickness is usually 0.1, 0.15, 0.2 or 0.3mm. Width is usually between 5 and 8mm. 88mm was probably a typo and you have 0.15x8mm? I'd say about 8A if it's pure nickel and obviously less if it's nickel plated steel. Maybe about 4A.
