Remove glue/rubber from harvested batteries?

Hi,

how do you remove the white/black glue/rubber-stuff from your harvested batteries? Scraping it off with a plastic pry tool, like you use to open a mobile phone/laptop, sometimes rips the heatshrink. Do you use a solvent or what do you do? All suggestions appreciated.
 
Honestly, just rewrap them SO much faster... if that isn't an option I've see some 3D print a sleeve that's a tight fit and slide the cell through it scraping the excess gunk off..
 
I try reducing the rubber/white stuff using a blade taken from a disposable razor blade, they are very very small, have thin blades and are flexible. But result always leaves some residual although I manage to cut right down to the wrapping.

So... I learnt how to rewrap them, last night I did over 10 using my wife's hairdryer and those small round magnets to hold the cell still on a large/solid magnetic base. Real easy.

Wrappings cost less than 2 cents each.
 
I have OCD so I wore out my fingernails, then went to a razorblade tool, then blew the muscles in my arm from holding-tight/squiggling too much!
These days - I only buy things that don't need much scraping... those RING cells were a dream but they seem gone now. :)

Agree that re-wrapping is very easy, a hot-air 'gun' makes it a snap.

I agree, re-wrap those cells if possible. Trying to get the gummy glue off will wear your hands slap out. You won't know how many muscles you have in your hand/forearm until you start getting rid of this nasty glue the manual way.

If you need to keep track of the cells "after" you've rewrapped them, you can use a label maker to print the numbers back on the cell. Also, if you want to keep detailed information about the cells (like charge cycles, degredation, charges/discharged, etc) you can go with one of the guys builds here that monitors all that. It's made with an arduino (I think) and barcode scanner. I'm pretty sure @Wolf knows who this is. I can't remember who has this build as it's been awhile :rolleyes:

I bought 100 wraps, mixed colours from AliExpress, if I'm lucky I'll have them in 20 days, otherwise in 40/50 days!

When I need something quick I buy it from Europe spending more money, yes; sometimes I make two orders together, one from Europe and one from China, so I can start working as soon as the first order is delivered, meanwhile the second order should arrive.
