I would like to personally thank those who report spammers using the Report tool. This helps a lot. We don't always catch them on our own and having the community being an extra set of eyes helps.

As an example, we recently got a report on a users profile. I checked them out and verified them as a spammer. As a routine, I always check for matching criteria to see if there were multiple accounts created. This time, I went down a rabbit hole. From that 1 report, I was able to purge/ban 6 spammer accounts as when I purged 1, the criteria matching caught up with another one.

So in one fell swoop, several were banned. We appreciate the communities help in helping to keep this community clean. Keep up the good work! (y)

Please make sure that when reporting spammers, you click the Report link next to the user or within the post. We received a report recently that included the whole thread. Just makes it a little confusing when we first open up the report.

Thanks again for help. 😎 👍

I came across a post that looked odd, so I looked closer.

The user/spammer had used the "quote/reply" option and made a legitimate reply, just a single sentence stating that it had happened to them as well. However, under closer inspection, they altered the quoted section and injected their own URL into it.
What's more, is the person who they were quoting had "Liked/ThumbsUp" the post.

Please be weary about quoted messages/replies. Just take a quick look over the quote to make sure it is in fact what you stated. Links show up as a different color so they are easy to spot. Just hover your mouse over the link to make sure it's legit. If it isn't, report them.

The spammers are getting a bit more spammy recently and little more cunning in their sneakery.

Over the past few days I know I've cleared out a dozen or so of them. Several from those being reported, so keep up that front as it helps a lot.

Can also be seen by checking if the response add valuable information. On a forum its more rare that "new" people go in and quote "yes i had it happen to...".. If that happens I always check twice so thats worth having in mind :)

Thanks for your efforts! After spending some time in the back end of the forum I'm shocked at how many spam accounts are active and the creative ways they have of slipping by the checks and measures put in place.

Yeah, having the community help has made things a lot easier too. This new system for reporting spammers is better than the previous myBB version.
What's really nice is that when banning/spamming someone, it auto-crossreferences accounts. That helps grab those who join and never post a comment, but might put something in their profile.

Keep up the great work guys! 😎

It did, thanks :)
That particular spammer is quite persistent. I think they've posted the same thing 3 times now over the past cpl months
