Ring Batteries

Hello all,

Others might know this, but I wanted to share a good resource for awesome batteries. It is from the Ring doorbell system, or whatever it's called. You know the doorbell with a camera.

The last 2 pictures are the same type of battery. I have opened about 100 packs and these are the only 2 battery types so far.

I have tested about 20 of each battery (green and blue) so far and they are testing at 3000-3150 mAh. Even though that is with a Zanflare C4, which runs a little high, that is still pretty good. The IR is testing in the range of 30-70. I know, I know...it is with the Zanflare. However, I have some other 2600 LG's and they can run between 50-200. I have a real tester on the way. It's just hasn't make it from China yet.

I just wanted to share. I feel like all I do is ask questions and hound others. Now, at least I feel like I contributed something. lol

Nice find. If you have a steady source for them it would be quite good.
 
Whats nice is I don't need a steady source. I bought 5400 of them. It should be good for every project I have for awhile.
 
33kAh capacity. You can definitely do a lot with that.
If you have any interesting projects in mind don't hesitate to post about them, even during planning and construction.
 
Yea. I will be building a powerwall. When I almost have all the batteries tested, I will be planning the complete system. I have a little idea on what I want but need to do a lot more research. So, my build thread will be posted in about 2 years...too many batteries.

I second that!!
I started my 18650 journey September 2018 and finished and installed my first powerwall pack 2 weeks ago.
It was a long road but totally worth it as I now store enough power to run my house all night long and all day long.
The weather has been great so I have plenty of sun right now but the second pack is in the planning and testing has already begun for those days when there is not quite the amount of sun that I have right now.

The satisfaction is when you look at your grid consumption at almost nil and you can snicker at your electric bill month after month after month.

@Wolf - I have been following your journey. I am stealing a bunch of your ideas for my build.

Yea, my electric company requires a 1 million dollar insurance policy to connect to the grid. They have pissed me off enough that I want to produce my own power.

Finally got all the boxes open and all batteries in one place.

Lots of work to do now. Trying to get all my chargers and wiring setup now.
 
Sorry to necro this thread but I was able to secure about 1400 of these, though I can't seem to get the majority of them open without nicking at least one of the batteries. Do y'all have any tips or tricks for opening them? I've looked for videos on youtube but the only one's I've found show nipping the corners with wire cutters. On a small percentage of the packs, this pops them right open when you cut shallowly into the case. However, most of them I have to take a pretty decent size bite out of to get the case to pop and about 10% of them refuse to open with giant bites.
