Hi
Im looking at using a simpBMS unit for an i3 battery pack along with a sunsynk inverter.
As they wont talk to each other over canbus, i will be simply setting high and low settings on the inverter and not overcooking the DOD settings.
Has anyone used the solarassistant.io raspberry pi unit that monitors both a BMS and inverter in one place.
This can talk using the Victron protocol, so its possible it will collate the info from both my inverter and the SimpBMS in one place
Any thoughts

The BMS is supposed to safeguard the battery, please use a set of contactors or trip shunt breaker controlled by SIMPbms
to isolate and shutdown the system in case of an error, or simply when battery is full, allow discharge etc, all there in the manual
I'm not so sure Solar-assistant can do this, or your Sunsynk inverter...

on the other hand really interesting piece of kit to potentially connect SIMPbms to a new range of very popular inverter types

Thanks for responding Carel, I may not have been clear when i said simply using the high and low of the inverter, thats not meaning that i'd bypass the built in safety mechanisms of SimpBMS.
I propose to use the SIMPBMS to control a relay and use that for overtemp, undervolt and overvolt at say 20% and 100%
Then using the inverter, again with a temp probe, i'd set its voltages within those above, so max DOD of 25% and max charge of 90%
Double safety settings all round then.
I'd be worried about the impact of the relay disconnecting the battery from the inverter "unnanounced" during normal operation, so i'd avoid that at all costs by setting the inverter margins within those of the simpBMS.
Obviously if its necessary for safety reasons then thats OK.

I've fully read the manual several times and read Darkwings build several times where he details his similar build.

I'll let you know how i get on.
Of course, it would be lovely if SimpBMS could emulate other battery types to make it suitable for more inverter types, but as you said in your posts, one thing at a time :)
