I've been interested / following sodium as they sounded phenomenal. But it seems buyer beware as in everything else around batteries.

Pretty much the same issues with NMC's. Don't buy off-name brands. There's only like 5 major manufacturers with BYD and CATL being the top brands.
What makes these so much more so of an issue is that Sodium batteries are so easy to make, compared to making LFP or NMC's. So of course there's a lot of under-quality manufacturing spinning up to make the cheap cells.
Fortunately for sodium, even the low quality ones won't turn into bombs, roman candles, or rockets, unlike the low quality NMC's were notorious of. Sure you may not get the expected life cycles, but that's better than loosing your structures/property.
But, pretty much stick with the top brands and you'll be ok. Their prices are comparable with LFP's right now and will be dropping soon. I was told by my China LFP contact that China will soon be implementing a Lithium export-tax, so any cells that are lithium will go up in price. It'll be a 2% "consumption" tax Sept 1st and will be raised to 4% after the new years (estimated).
What stinks is that I don't have $2-3k to drop on getting another batch of batteries before the price goes up
