Software Conversion Maintenance

The forum will be temporarily taken offline tomorrow (December 10th) for most of the day to a facilitate a software conversion from MyBB to Xenforo.

I have been using MyBB for over 15 years now, making it somewhat saddening to see this happen, but it no longer has the functionality we need for this forum to grow and thrive. It's been full of "coming soon" promises for years now with no real action. I've attempted to bridge these gaps with a significant amount of custom coding (image uploading, mobile-friendly, etc) that has become burdensome to maintain and still does not come anywhere close to what other packages can offer.

Most of what I built custom is offered by Xenforo right out of the box - and much better. It has a new clean look, a wonderful responsive format for mobile use, features for image sharing, alerts, spam management, and many new social-based features. This will significantly reduce time spent writing and maintaining code as well as having to moderate and clean up spam. Additionally, it is much easier to post from both the desktop and mobile devices (< HUGE WIN HERE).

I will begin the migration in the morning (EST time). My priority will be getting the data converted cleanly and back online as quickly as possible. I have converted the forum dozens of times over the past few months for testing and have all the kinks worked out at this point. Everything has been running great on the test site. There will likely be cleanup tasks here and there throughout the next few days once the site is back online. No content will be lost and all existing URLs to forums, threads, users, etc will continue to work (redirected).

I welcome any feedback you may have regarding the conversion, way the forums or organized, features you would like to see, etc. If you have any thoughts at all, please speak up!! Additionally, Peter (HBPowerwall) has agreed to remove advertisements after the conversion for a little while.

Thanks!

The conversion has been completed successfully and everything is looking great! If you run in to any problems, such as permissions missing, broken URLs that were working before, etc - please let me know.

There are still a few minor tasks to finish up over the next few days. Attachment thumbnails are currently being regenerated. This will take a few hours, so those may not look perfect at the time of this post.

Also, don't forget to check out the forum on your mobile device. It's so clean and easy to use! :D

Good work but if you select a link in a message, the subject does not open, we return to the forum menu.

Mike, I agree. If you click on a link that in a thread that is internal, it takes you back to the main page instead of to that forum/thread post.

This is also an oddity:

If you notice, there are ...... Nevermind. Just noticed. Those top 3 posts are pinned. Is there a way to make the Pinned threads show up separately than the regular ones?

As far as the link thing, here's Daromers Thread link: https://secondlifestorage.com/index.php?threads/esperyd-s-raspberry-pi-project.999/
Will it go to his page? Testing after posting......

UPDATE: Ok, that link worked. Testing another link.....
Trying this one: http://www.diypowerwalls.com/t-Esperyd-Solar-and-powerwall-system

Altho, I see this one is the other URL

UPDATE2: Ok, the 2nd link opens a new page and jumps to the main home page. I'm assuming this is because the Forum is tied to "secondlifestorage" and not "diypowerwalls".
Might be a good idea to go through and update all the "diypowerwalls" links to the "secondlifestorage" ones.

Yeah the pinned thing caught me up a bit too - I'll take a look. Daromer's link works fine for me. If you're seeing something else, maybe try clearing your cache and see if that resolves it?
