They work, but aint great. Welds are inconsistent, they cant weld stronger materials and the battery degrades rather fast.

What do you guys think about these little set ups you can buy on amazon? seems like as long as you are not doing nickel that is too think they work fine. Any thoughts.

Buy one of this u can spot weld up to 0.3mm pure nickel strip or double stack 0.2mm pure nickel strip like nothing. Any cheap Chinese spot welder( at least 5 mosfet) will work. I will post picture of my spot welder setup if u interested.

I agree these CAN work but are not reliable. I got one and was one of the 50% of the folks trying them who had it blow up right away. After that and several other "cheap" attempts I went with the very well designed Kweld and am never going back.

Mine didn’t blow up even at 99e. I think you need a very good battery like SPIM08HP. Personally, I do not like RC Lipo battery it seems very unreliable to me. Chinese spot welder they’re surprisingly good in my opinion with modifications. I agree Kweld they’re good but its hard to get and too expensive for my hobby

They are "meh". you can basically get the same thing much cheaper. If you are planning on spending that kind of money, get a proper bench top spot welder that runs on 120/240 and has bigger wires.
That's already $60. It probably wouldn't last a very long time. Altho, if you only need it for your tool repair, then it doesn't need to last long. But, at the same token, if you only need to use it for a few jobs, then get one that's only about $15-20USD. Will do the exact same thing. Just doesn't have all the fancy leds on it and come in a slick looking black case.

I used the maletrics spot welder to put together my 14S 240P battery Welding on 32 AWG and 28 AWG wire (the 32 was the fuse). I highly recommend it, it worked perfectly and was even easy enough for an idiot like me to use.

I too purchased one of these and got maybe 20 reasonable welds out of it before the magic smoke escaped.

I have been thinking of using the top board as it still is fine, and getting/making a new mosfet board that can handle the power.

For power source I made up a 3s5p LiPo pack using 25C 12Ah cells. Might be a little overkill...
