Hi,

I got some e-bike Batteries with 36V(10S6P) I want to start building my PW with.
As some of you already mentioned and I already found out myself, taking them apart is not easy.
So I plan to use them as they are besides the fact that I think this will be my main source of Batteries.

As I'm still in the process of planing I now see two possible setups:
1. I add 4S6P Cell Blocks to upgrade to 14S6P for 48Volt systems( which I already tried successfull on one example Battery)
2. If possible change the settings in the PIP 5048MS to use them as 36V

The quesion is: is this possible with a mppSolar PIP-5048MS?
As I have two of them, can I then use one for 36V ( from e-Bike Batteries) and the other for a 48Volt system build from my collected Laptop cells?

1. yes
2. NO

They dont state the minium voltage now but i know its like 36-39V or something.

Hi daromer,

thanks for clarifying.
Then it's a litlle bit more work, but I will deal with this.

You can choose to use 36 V as Your Main Battery Bank, OK, use as many e-bike packs as You can make work.
Now, if You want to use a 48 volt inverter You need a 48 volt buffer battery that can run the inverter for say half an Hour. Next get a couple of buck-boost converters to replenish the 48 volt battery from the 36 volts.
I use this: "1200W 20A DC Konverter Boost Auto Step-up Stromversorgungsmodul DC8-60V 12-83V" .
They are cheap and they can work in parallel. Each module can convert 700W from 36V to 50V. Before putting them into service, make sure all the FETs are aligned with the cooling plate. Mine wasnt.
(It works :) I use a 48 v pip inverter fed from a 48 v lead acid battery. My litihium bank is 24V. Boosters are set at 50Volts, so when the lead-acid battery dips below 50V the boosters start feeding, 10 A at 50 V each.)
My Batrium cuts off the boosters, should my Lithium Bank run dry.

Best of luck

Hi ChrisD,

sorry I reply so late, just didn't see your comment.
I've switched to another solution. I managed to take the busbars off and plan to change the 10S5P to 50P and
combine 14 of these blocks together(14S50P). That also makesit easier for using a BMS.
