[The Kilowatt Challenge]

So what's the best nickel strip welder these days? Need to start building soon and want to make sure I'm using the most popular solution?

Don't know about the most popular but after looking at all kinds of spot welders, I went with the kWeld and have never looked back.
Given the proper power source, once calibrated and dialed in it is consistent and predictable.

The kWeld is the best one, but also by far the most expensive one. But as Wolf said, once set up, its very consistent and predictable.
I just wired a old & nearly dead 12v 45ah lead acid battery to it with a 15v 20a power supply constantly connected to it. Gives me about 600A welding current consistently.

I also vote Kweld in my case with a graphene battery so it is very portable and I can use the battery as a car jump starter I tried DIYing a car battery with solenoid and switch and it worked but not well, I tried the "cheap" $200 aliexpress spot welder and couldn't get proper welds out of it and so for $300ish for the Kweld with battery I am very happy and should have just started with that rather than buy all these "parts" that didn't work.

I could never get a K-weld, so I went with the Maletrics. I have welded up thousands of wires to cells and it works just fantastically.

I bought a Sunkko 709AD after reading some reviews, just under 200€ (220$). I did a quick test and it seems a very serious welder, nothing to do with my 10$ previous cheap PCB.

After the effort you put into visiting me half way around the world, I'm happy to help. Side not turned on the B00MB, still fires up! THAT Sanyo still got charge!

Nothing wrong with the 709ad works well for the price - they just wear out and stop working sooner than the Kweld.
