I bought some new cells in from malaysia in packs of 10 see the first pic
98oo mah supposedly with a pcb protection. They weighed 25 grams

Had a small pack sagging so I looked for a bad cell and found one . Charged and discharged a couple of times through a half amp torch bulb. 3.9V start to 2.6V end
Current .426 amps
That took 16 min 42 seconds
Average voltage 3.25
3.25 x .426 watts=1.3845 watts
1.3845 watts x 1000 seconds =1.3845 x 1000/3600 whrs= .0384583 WH is that how it goes?

Not very good anyway so I pulled it apart to have a look at its insides

Didn't find a pcb anywhere?

1) 9800mAh cell = FAKE cell. No such animal in this form factor. That max mAH in these forms is around 3000mAh. And they don't ever have the word "FIRE" in their title.
2) No PCB on those cells. You would have found it when you took the plastic heatshrink wrapping off.

The "protection" they may have eluded to is the over heating protection that will vent in the event the cell gets too hot. Once that pops, you can't use the cell anymore. That CID protection is in the Pos end under the button.

Should tell you all you need to know.

OMG YES!!! No Lithium cell can be above about 3000mAh. There are few that are 3200mAh, but they are expensive. Unless they are large cells, they are super fake!

Unless you can get a manufacturer datasheet (this is read as in not using what is posted in the ebay description as valid) about the cell, assume the mAh rating is fake if it's above 3000mAh.

Thanks . Also been getting 5800 like these / Are they fakes too?

Was hoodwinked by one of the sellers of these too, before I started here and before I had read about the tell tale signs.
The cells are very light If I had realized how light I would have sent them back. was just happy they arrived charged 3.6 v to 3.8 v. had them for a few weeks before I got an opus BT-C3400, had already left feedback when I found out they tested anywhere from 400 mah to 600 mah.
Then i joined this fine forum about 3 weeks later. I have asked quite a few newbee questions and stuck my foot in my mouth a time or too.

later floyd

Above link not working . This was highest I could find

3100 mah
Samsung 35E with max continuous discharge or 8-10A
Or
LG MJ1 with 8-10A max discharge

Both are between 3400 and 3500mAh

I use those for lower power ebike batteries to give max range

Note that these cells are quite good but degrade quickly at close to max discharge and any charge more than .75A per cell

Legitimate 3000mah cells such as NCR18650A or LGABD21865 weigh 45g. Lessor cells at 2200mah are 42g'ish. So 42-45g for legitimate cells in 2000'ish to 3000'ish mah.
The 25g in the 1st post makes the point - they didn't even bother to use filler to make it weigh anywhere near a legitimate cell. I saw a picture where they used a bag of some white powder (flour?- can't remember) inside the cylinder to add weight to make it seem more legitimate :)

yet another crap cell variant.
over 3600mah=B.S
under 45g is suspicious too.
have not seen the powder filled ones in a while.
they must have gotten rid of the rest of the toxic drywall dust by now.
