Ok, we pretty much all Love the 18650 cells. With this fairly easy to do DIY, we had better all have one of these lovely bad boys in our tool boxes :p

Hmmm...A very nice little soldering iron for work on small circuit boards , but for soldering on cells and bus bars we need more thermal inertia , and at least 60W ...to get 60 W from a 18650 would need a current of 20A ...

I didn't say we would "use" it, just have it in the tool box ;)

It's a nostalgia item

Nostalgia?

This is my lineup or at least the ones I don't have in storage like my 250 watt soldering gun, the one on the left is a true nostalgia item. I won a bet some years back with that, soldered some heavy pieces of brass together using solar power directly, a fresnel lens focusing the sun on that big iron for about 15 minutes had it smokin'.

there is a few commercially available in Australia made by trade flame come with a little recharge dock, i think its only a 20w unit when i get one we ill tear it down
that a cool idea though,
i have a 30watt 12v iron that plugs into the cigar lighter socket of a car might need to make it 18650 portable
