Genuine Cells in a Generic Pack?
#1
While going through some of my generic packs, I found one that stood out. The cover looked like any other:

Upon opening up the pack, besides the usual kapton tape, aluminum wire, and small Chinese BMS, the cells were different than what I was used to finding:

Here's a closeup of the cells. The numbers are not capacity, but rather my serial numbers. Cell 1238 came from a genuine Dell laptop battery. Cell 1239 came from the generic pack posted above.

On the Opus, they tested less than their original capacity, but higher than I expected. Left Opus is tests about 20% above actual, the right Opus tests about 10% above actual. So they were about 2300-2350?

What do you think? Are these fake Samsungs? I've seen better generics (Rayovac, AtBatt, etc.) using BAK cells, but it was a bit of a surprise to find Samsungs on a no-name pack.

P.S. I don't know why, but the uploader is automatically rotating all my pictures the wrong way.

Please zip the original files that are being rotated and upload to this thread: https://secondlifestorage.com/t-Image-rotation-issues

Look for any signs of extra spot welds. They could be 'third' life cells. I have found the odd cheapo pack made with recycled cells.

Your phone camera most likely stored them with the wrong rotation flag.

Just happened again. Going to test them for capacity. I don't see any extra spot welds or re-wrapping going on.

Genuine one has the serial number 0168, unmarked one is the one from the Generic Pack.

Original 22Fs are in both green and cyan formats and both look authentic.

I've found a bunch more fake Samsungs since my last post, but I thought this one was funny. A "Dill" battery which is an obvious purposeful misspelling of Dell.

At least they spelled Samsung correctly on the cells themselves! These are very good looking fakes, but they have 2200mAh cells of unknown origin under the wrapper.
