Good Chinese BMS review

Hello
Im considering buying one of these a 14s, can a 14s be configured to a 12s in any way? As i might use it on a different pack later

Battery is li iron using 18650s, 14s, 0p, and growing cell so far 300, untesteded.
Bms is a diy open source by stuartpittaway.
No solar yet, 
Building wind turbine, 48v im after a 48v motor if anybody has one for sale.
Cells 2000 to 2500ma.
Cells 1500 to 2000ma.
Cells 1000 to 1500ma.

I also thought that 50mA balancing current is way too little for a large pack.  But after almost 1 year of use in a 14s100p battery, it has proven to be enough, as long as it's set to start early (eg. at 3.8V), and there are no super leaky cells.... like would-self-discharge-completely-in-a-few-days leaky.


Wow - Is that just one BMS that you are using for your battery bank? You signature highlights 41kwh which seems huge for a BMS that does 50mv for balancing. I bought a similar one for a 12kwh pack that I just installed so I do not have any history with it but your experience is helpful for what the future might hold performance wise. Thanks

No, I have 4x parallel connected 14s100p batteries, and each one has its own BMS. So I kinda have 200mA of total balancing current for my 41kWh storage, though they cannot assist each other. What also really helps is that my charge/discharge limits are fairly conservative at 4.05V ~ 3.45V. I've had perhaps 20 faulty cells so far, but none came even close to cause enough imbalance to trip the BMS safeties.

My main concern was the balancing function, as it can only drain at 50mA.  Many cheap BMS start balancing only when a cell has reached 4.2V, but this one has many option on when it should balance.  I'm very happy with my settings of:
balance when { cell voltage >3.8V } and { voltage diff of 0.02V or more } and { battery is being charged }
So far, this has been plenty to keep by packs balanced.  If it should not suffice, I can change it to balance 24/7 instead of only when being charged.


It's also reasonably easy to do some basic troubleshooting of the packs.  The packs were initially all in the 4.08V~4.16V range.  After my first discharge, the BMS reported that packs #7 and #12 had much lower voltages:

Turned out that the fuse wire on 4 cells on pack #7 were not properly soldered, and pack #12 had 2 cells with the same problem.  After fixing those issues and 2 cycles later (ca 20h of charging/balancing in total) all the packs were top balanced to within 0.02V difference.  On discharge:


pack #11 is a little weak, but still within my "good enough" range.

I'm quite happy with this BMS, and I've ordered 3 more to use in my next batteries.
The only thing I'm not too happy about is the limited range of the bluetooth requiring me to be basically in the room to check the status.  Wifi remote monitoring would have been awesome.

Thanks for the detailed review on this BMS.  I have been researching it and it seems like it will meet all requirements.  The one thing that I can't find for sure is a version of the app for OS in English.  Does anyone know if there is an English OS app compatible with this BMS?

does anybody know what the on off switch does im hoping it is 0v off 5v on ?
