Safety Test of the containment, need your help / Opinion

Hey guys,
I want to test the safety of my containment for the lithium battery.
At the moment it consists of fireclay and fire protection plates. But of course I ask myself if this can withstand the temperatures of a lithium fire at all. For the test I want to pack a few batteries into a box made of the mentioned materials, ignite them and test whether they can withstand the temperatures or not.
Of course, the best protection is that it never gets that far. But I would like to know if there is some protection from my containmentin case of emergency or not.
Now I'm unsure how to do it properly or do you think it's a completely stupid idea?
 
I think you should film this when you try it. Not sure if it is a good idea but it would be interesting to watch.

Also consider firestop products for penetrations. They will seal up in the event of a fire.
 
Put them on a gentle CV charge upto 4.1V so they are nice and full.... then force charge them well above 4.2V with something like 5-10A to see if that will get them all to warm up before going over charge and flameout....

Alternatively watch quite a few youtube video's as there are a lot of experiments that have been done and some accidental fires that can also be looked at to see the extent of a cascade that can happen.

Always good to see things first hand though, I had an old LiPo which had puffed out a little so I charged it up and put a nail in it to see what happened. Batteries went outside in a box..
 
You need to push Them into fire. Over charge most likely wont work. Trigger Them with a heating element tied around One or many of em.

Exactly.
My personal insider specialist in the LiIon car battery field confirms this.

Igniting a fully loaded cell by external applied overheating (130 degress C) is the worst case. Simply because no energy is consumed by heating up the chemicals ....
 
I stand corrected, if the cells have internal thermal protection over charging does not work at all by the looks of it....

A hammer seems to be quite interesting though 2:03, merely the threat of a hammer, lol..... or maybe the catapult..

Another one that has some x-ray imaging of a cell that fails (1:10)

LiPo on the other hand... boaring, they chould have left the cell in the toy.

I have seen a propane torch only char the surface and not burn through.
I thought about that, but i dont want a thermal isolation around the cells.
I found a Glas granulate which seems to be effektive. I will put a bag over each pack, so if it burns the gran. falls out and will kill the fire immediatly.
Next week i will test my fire box and also the granulate. I will make a video with the results.
