Victron 150/35, Outback
#61
Ok so after reading over all this I believe I would be able to set the outback to charge my lithium module properly thanks for everyone’s help and I’m sure I’ll be asking more questions when I start installing.. I ordered an outback 60 and a low mileage Chevy volt 60v (nominal) 16s 3kw lithium battery module.. I might purchase one more of those battery modules in the future to parallel with the one I ordered.. I am going to rewire my one array to 99v 20amps instead of the 66v 30amps it is now, to be able to charge the battery properly all year.. the other array (same size as other) will stay connected straight solar to other 2000w grid tie inverter till I (eventually) purchase another battery then I’d run both inverters off same battery bank (both modules in parallel) and both arrays charging..

So really not a large setup.. max amps I will be charging the one battery module is 30amps (limited by the array size) and like 20amps discharge to inverter which I can set on the inverters settings to not draw above a certain amp..

Now the last component I need to get is the bms.. considering the small size of my system and the cells of the module being in good health and similar voltage, which bms should I get... I was planning to conservatively charge and discharge like explained above so my cells shouldn’t be getting out of balance..
I was really hoping to get a cheaper bms for this small set up.. I’ve read that these Ev modules live a happy easy going life when used in a small solar setup due to them not getting used nowhere near as hard as they would have been powering a car.. I don’t think I’m worried so much about balancing the cells due to them being similar in health-capacity.. I’m think I should be more worried about fire and ruining the pack etc and from what I’ve read about the cheaper Chinese bms they use mosfets to stop charge and discharge that can allow for surges of voltage from array so I guess that’s bad.. The chargery bms uses relays-contactors to shut off discharge-charge.. Im thinking if I use the inverters amp draw limiting settings to stop overdischarging and inverters settings for battery low voltage cutoff.. and use charge controllers settings to keep charging under full voltage conservatively and I keep I check individual cell voltages everyday,, then can I use the cheaper bms and be justifiably comfortable that my house isn’t going to burn down?
