Solarix PLI 5000-48 inverter charger
#1
Hi new to this forum.

I live off-grid and our old 12 year old wet battery pack is near and end so we are upgrading from 24v to 48V.
I got 80 100A CALB cells that came out of a EV they are 8 years old and seem ok.

And this Solarix PLI 5000-48 inverter/charger looks good so wondering if anyone has one and what do you think of it?

Battery bank planned so far is for 5p16s still haven't decided on a BMS yet Rolleyes

I have 5kW PV and a 2.5kW wind turbine.

Do it properly - get a BMS that will communicate with your inverter/charger and MPPT solar/wind chargers:

Victron or schneider

Outback stuff is super reliable, but there's no BMS support (Either batrium or REC, which are your two BMS options)
Current system: 9.6kWh wet Nicad batteries, 16S1P Calb LiFePo4 210aH, Batrium WM4, Outback vfx3048 inverter, mx60 mppt controller, flexware 500 mounting hardware, 2.4kW solar array, 6kW lister diesel genset. MY'13 Vauxhall Ampera

For a system that large, I would not consider anything other than a well-established BMS system.  Batrium would be my pick primarily because of the amount of community support around here.

Another thing to mention going with what I presume are LiFePO4 batteries, is that unlike lead batteries, monitoring state of charge using voltage alone is very difficult if not impossible.  They have a very flat discharge curve and have a steep voltage drop off.  It would be recommend to use a good quality shunt based SoC monitor.  Similar standalone units would be like the Victron BMV-712.

As always with used batteries, I would test capacity and arrange the cell blocks accordingly, but with this much capacity, you might be better off just connecting it all up and moving modules around after the fact if you start to notice cell groups which are noticeably over or under balance.
