50A Automatic ATS Dual Power Transfer Switch

My system is off-grid and I use 50a Progressive Dynamics PD52DCSV Transfer Switch Surge Protected ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0136U0QU4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and some Go Power! TS-30 30 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00153EYTO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) in my setup to perform this automatic back and forth from PV/battery to grid each day.

The concept works great for me and let's me stay off-grid but automatically consume my PV/battery power :)

However, let me draw your attention to a couple of issues
1) I need UPSs on computer/tv and other equipment that can't stand the switch-over. <10ms may not be fast enough.
2) I was warned that mis-matched sine-wave (between inverter and grid and vice-versa) during switch-overs can cause induction motor power surges... so my Progressive has 100amp surge protection and I'm not sure this unit does sine-wave synchronization OR have any surge protection.
3) 50amps require 6 AWG wiring for standard US wiring... so make sure you have 6 AWG if you're anywhere near the 50amps.

So I would say it's worth a try... but be aware that depending on the size of your system and the type of things running on this might cause you to have to do a bit more than just by this unit.
 
That's an interesting ATS. Problem is, he didn't take it apart. Would be nice to see what the internals look like and if they "really" could handle 50A. I'm leaning towards not really considering the type of screw down connectors. But I could be wrong on that.

I'm with you both on the ability to handle the claimed amperage. I make rough estimate to be 6Kw! of power max through the switch. I doubt it can manage that, however most people wont ever need that. I guess there's only one way to find out if nobody here has one!
