Hi all,

i am ordering the last Hardware i need.

System i am Building is 14s240p = 3360 cells in total avg 2700 mAh.

Watchmon 4 with longmon and 500 A Shuntmon ? or 1000 A Shuntmon?

Or Watchmon 5 ?

For a 14S system do you guys buy 2 more longmons just to have if one longmon fail in time ? cause shipping if needed will be alot so i think of buying 16 to have 2 more as a puffer.

Maximal Current i will draw next years are maximal 4 kw per hour. And as i know myself i will upgrade it to maximal current 8 kw per hour peak.

Still i think 500A Shuntmonwill be enough for me if i do the math correct.

83.33333333333333 A = 4000 Watt

4000/48 Volt

So i whould have around 165 Ampere with maximal 8000 Watt. So 500 Ampere Shuntmon would be total enough or not ?

Thanks for reply

Agree that a 500a shunt is 500a * 52v = 26,000watt range - e.g. 240v@100a range. Irun2 x AIMS 12,000winverters which is24,000w continous /72,000w peak for 20secs. However, in practice I might get to 16,000w total if everything is on at same time - and its designed that way. Also, I use an ABB SACE S5 400a shunt-trip... so 400a is my max from the battery even though the battery was designed to delivery 500a+. Part of the reason for this is that > 400a Shunt-trip is not so easy (cheap) to buy and I just don't need it. Another reason is that 4/0 wire is adequate for 400a but if you went 800a (or some such) it would not be - again > 4/0 wire has a series of issues :)

I run WM4 + longmons on 84packs at 120p - and balance capability is plenty good. I understand the WM5 is 'lighter' in balance current capability - but I've found that I only balance when I add a new pack and healthy packs don't need regular balanceat all -maybe a 40mv drift over 6-9 months of daily charge/discharge.. I don't actually know as I've added new packs more often than I've ever needed to balance the system.

I think WM5 is less expensive and I understand they're coming out with a way to add more than 14packs in the near future.

thanks alot.

i ordered yesterday my wm4 with 16 longmons.

thanks for your big answer to my question.
