Who's got a 3D printer and does anyone have any recommendations for one that won't break the bank?

Following - I'm being drawn to 3D printing - don't have the time but it would be awful cool to have sitting in the workshop..

I've got a little Printrbot Jr. It's got a 130 x 130 x 80 mm print volume and only prints PLA. But it only cost US360 as a kit.

There was a bit of a learning curve, but once i'd got it running it mostly just works. They are not appliances though.

I use Tinkercad for designing stuff - which is dead simple to use, but also a wee bit limiting.

It's worth going through the early videos of Makers Muse on Youtube. Good stuff there.

I went for one of the CTC duals you find on ebay. It's ok but the dual functionality is a waste of time to the point i've taken one of them out. Getting the bed level is a right PIA so i've just purchased a meter to try and help that nerdville recommended. As i've paid for it i'm going to try and get it working.

I've been following the new Prusa mk2 http://shop.prusa3d.com/en/3d-printers/59-original-prusa-i3-mk2-kit.html

Price wise it's not dirt cheap but it's still far cheaper than an ultimaker etc. If i manage to get rid of some extra kit i have i could be tempted.

As Paul says though they aren't appliances so always need some level of tinkering.

I have a Robo 3D Printer, I don't recommend it the support is the worst I have ever seen, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1682938109/robo-3d-printer">https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/16 ... 3d-printer</a><!-- m -->

But the local Hackerspace has a Taz 5 and that is an awesome one, will be buying one for my self <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.lulzbot.com/store/printers/lulzbot-taz-5">https://www.lulzbot.com/store/printers/lulzbot-taz-5</a><!-- m -->

maybe we need a link to the local hacker spaces in SEQ - could really be of help to some people in the area :)

Ya there's a local hackerspace here. I've wanted to check them out for years, maybe i finally need to as they do have 3d printers.

decided to order up a printer from Reprapguru. The Reprap Prusa i3 v2. Was on sale for $290 us on amazon. Just couldn't justify the 699 cost of the original prusa mk2 kit from prusa. Once i get and assemble i'll update on how it went together/performs.
